Plugs exploded at 92,000 miles.

Thatā€™s not reassuring. I wonder if any of the Ranger crew have experienced anything of the like?

Guess Iā€™ll be swapping mine out preventatively at 100,000 kms (62,000miles)

Donā€™t know what to say about this article. Seems like the spark plugs were in the engine way too long.. with that many miles, how many oil changes occurred.. So many things to have answered.. šŸ¤“
11mpg!!

What a sh-show of a blog post!

"The Bronco's owner [deleted] told me all about it over the phone..."

Wow! What journalism!

Also, a turbo four-cylinder is "newfangled tech," now?

I could get a more coherent and applicable "article" from my cat.

The owner also knew they had a misfire and kept driving it before the issue with the sparkplugs. No mods listed and lots of, probably, hard wheeling shown to get to 100k in under 3 years.

Gotta bait to get the clicks, I guess, but the person who wrote it should be embarrassed.

That mpg makes me think he was off-road A LOT. Good for him! Those are hard miles though and I bet the suggested maintenance wasnā€™t followed for ā€œSevere Useā€. Service intervals are reduced quite a bit with use like that. Also sounds like heā€™s pretty hard on it and judging by the way he kept driving while it had obvious problems suggests he probably didnā€™t maintain it very well. Oh yeah the exploding spark plugs are a pretty good indicator too! Iā€™m not concerned. Totally unrelatedā€¦.I think Iā€™ll give that extended warranty another lookšŸ˜…

Does anyone know off the top of their head what mileage Ford recommends changing your plugs on 2.3/2.7 L?

Normal scheduled maintenance is 100k
Severe duty for excessive idle, short trips, etc is 60k

Okay, Iā€™d drop the change to 35-40 K miles.. A Bronco moving through the air is severe conditions. Add weather and other 4x4 activity, even more severe !!! Time to be conservative with an expensive 4x4ā€¦. šŸ¤“

Sounds like it may be too tongue in cheeks. šŸ˜

My cat would actually get distracted and end up writing about how to cuddle lizards to death.

Iā€™ve got a buddy who blew 2 4 pot Subaru engines in 6 years. How? Bad engines? No, he just drives like an idiot.

For this guy to get his MPG down that low, he had to be driving overly aggressively. Iā€™ve said it many times, this ainā€™t a Mustang, itā€™s a brick Bronco with the parts to match. Then, the driving after misfire was just terrible, almost wonder how he got it covered.

For those who drive hard, maintenance schedules should be shortened and there will be certain parts that youā€™ll want to mod to something stronger to better handle the abuse.

Iā€™ve got the 2.7, but not optimistic that one would have handled his abuse any better.

Not trying to turn my Bronco into a sports car or highway cruiser either.
