Sounds exactly like mine. Cam phasers for sure.My 2022 Badlands Bronco starting this morning.
Only the 2.7/3.0'sIs this only a known issue with the 2.7 or does it happen on the 2.3?
A special oil or a slightly higher fill level won’t affect or change phaser operation at all. They’re just a known failure. It’s been happening on all 6 cylinder ecoboost engines for the last ~10 years.Did any of you experiencing the rattle do your very first oil change before the oil life indicator recommended? I’m wondering if the factory fill oil volume was high and also a unique blend meant to condition the fresh parts.
As far as I know, there is no guaranteed repair. Ford has revised the phaser design multiple times over the years, but they just keep having failures. Is there a guaranteed repair for it, or does it just happen over and over due to bad design?
That kinda sucks. Guess it's a bit of a dice roll, but I wonder why.As far as I know, there is no guaranteed repair. Ford has revised the phaser design multiple times over the years, but they just keep having failures.
Any rhyme or reason to the failures or just random? Does allowing adequate warm up time before loading the engine help? Thanks for your insight. As far as I know, there is no guaranteed repair. Ford has revised the phaser design multiple times over the years, but they just keep having failures.
There’s probably multiple factors that go into it. A lot of that has to do with the specific engine and phaser design. Ford was having phaser issues long before the ecoboost also. That kinda sucks. Guess it's a bit of a dice roll, but I wonder why.
A quick search on some truck forums shows some people getting over 100k on original phasers while others not making it to 25k without 3-4 replacements.
Honestly I’m not sure. I don’t think Ford is either, which is why it’s still an issue hahaAny rhyme or reason to the failures or just random? Does allowing adequate warm up time before loading the engine help? Thanks for your insight.
Yeah in the 5.4 right? The 5.0 has been fine regarding the cam phasers though hasn't it?There’s probably multiple factors that go into it. A lot of that has to do with the specific engine and phaser design. Ford was having phaser issues long before the ecoboost also.
Yeah the 5.4's were just as bad. 5.0's get phaser rattle also. Maybe not quite as common as Ecoboosts, but it still happens.Yeah in the 5.4 right? The 5.0 has been fine regarding the cam phasers though hasn't it?
I seem to remember BMW having lots of VANOS issues back in the day also.
I don't know enough to know what else I could do to reduce the chance of it happening. Worth running full synthetic? My Mustang has always ran well on the synblend.
