For you guys that have changed their rear diff fluid did you stick to motorcraft synthetic 75w85 gear oil? Or use something else? Redline? Lucas? Amsoil?

I just went with OEM first time around. But, I’m here to see other experiences.

Did you settle for 75w90 or did you find 75w85?
To each their own, but it is pretty common for shops to just use 90 vs 85.

I have no worries doing this.

Yeah I don't know why Ford Spec'd out such an odd weight oil. Personally I think it is a bummer because I would have liked to had options.

I haven't done it yet, put I'd be tempted to find the rarer 85w and stick to specs. Thicker oils are thicker for a reason and run hotter and with lockers in both my diffs...just don't know if it is worth the gamble.

Jeep requires the same fluid on their D44s, so it must be a Dana thing.

A lot of Jeep people run 90 with no issues.

I won’t try convincing anyone. I just use 90 because it is more common and I like the squeez packs.

I went with Redline 75W85 as well, I like Valvoline too, but I wasn't sure if I needed the Hypoid stuff. Not really sure if that's necessary, but that's the route I went.

Since the logistical challenges of the p-demic I've fully swapped over to Amsoil. Mail order, decent price, always in stock, even can use paypal to spread out the hurt.

For motor oil I loved Rotella T6, for everything. But with the scarcity and price increase the swap over to Amsoil was easy; just have not swapped back yet. Then I started to use it for all my oil needs. For instance, early this year me and my son bought a bass boat, he lives in another state, so I just do a couple of clicks on the PC, the oil shows up at his door, no hassle, he uses a 'free' to him product and I know I'm doing what I can to have the motor last as long as it can. I change all my fluids early and often.

Good to know about the jeep part. I wasn't aware because in mine I went with the higher recommended weight for towing.

I've got 85-140 in both of mine front and rear right now fwiw. Worst case you'll lose a half a mpg from a thicker gear oil, it's not going to hurt anything though.

Jeep has the same specs listed for their gear oil as ford, but if you dig into some Dana documents on the m210/220 axle they call for 75-140. I'm not trying to convince anyone either, I had a case of 85-140 laying around from a project lol

When I ran 140 in my jeep, the pumpkin seems to run a bit hotter but can't say I paid alot attention to it before I changed to thicker gear oil.

I will say, damn that ford Spec'd oil is expensive! (Regardless of the brand). Is 85w made of some special magic stuff or what?!

I just realized that the front requires 80W-90 (WSP-M2C197-A) and the rear is 75W-85 (WSS-M2C942-A) as already discussed. Why is that?
