I will honestly be shocked and also pissed off if the 2.3 is the only motor available at launch.
The good news for Ford is that lottsa folks are eagerly anticipating Bronco. But that's also the bad news 'cause its easier to piss off folks today, than at any time in human history. Ford really has to thread the needle on this one.

The opposite might be true for Bronco "Sport"...because judging by their forum traffic, either no one is even aware...or they just don't give a rip.

because the Lincoln Aviator, a similarly sized vehicle, has one. It’s a V6 hybrid I believe and has like 400hp/450ftlb or something crazy like that.

Edit:

Damn.... I guessed way under... is this the right one y’all?

edit2:

it’s the right one.

a couple of people have said a 3.0 is coming. Could be for the raptor tho. And no word on hp or type. Hybrid or not.

The screenshotted text of some dude's friend that works at Dana mentioned both a 2.7 and 3.0 option.

A Bronco Hybrid was confirmed in 2019. So the Aviator's 3.0 Hybrid powertrain is one option Ford could pull from. There's also an NA 3.3L Hybrid from the Explorer that's rated at 318hp/322tq.

I sure hope the Bronco isn't as big as the Aviator. The Aviator is 199″ L x 82″ W x 70″ H.

A Wrangler 4D is 188" L x 74" W x 74" H.

A 4Runner is 191″ L x 76″ W x 72″ H

The Aviator is significantly longer and wider than both of those.

The 3.0 EcoBoost is a bored and stroked version of the 2.7. Anything that a 2.7 fits in, the 3.0 will also fit into. The 3.0 is used in the MKZ, the Continental, the new Explorer, and the new Aviator. It's usually rated around 400hp/400tq.

There's a lot of confusion online about this 3.0 engine. There's a Car and Driver review that claims the Lincoln's 3.0 is all-aluminum. Wikipedia cites this article. It is wrong.

Here's a 2.7 from a Fusion Sport. Note that the cylinder heads are aluminum as is the block skirt, but the inner structure is CGI (rusty iron).

Here's a 3.0 from an MKZ, one that the article claims should be all-aluminum. Same rusty inner structure:

Ford Bronco Another V6 option? fusion30-1-450x600

And another 3.0 from a Continental, still rusty:

Ford Bronco Another V6 option? continental30-1-800x533

This Ford Authority article also incorrectly claims the 3.0 is all-aluminum.

Ford's spec page for the 2020 Explorer ST claims the 3.0 block is "cast aluminum." The same page for the Edge ST calls the 2.7 "Compacted graphite iron."

No one has wrecked a 2020 yet and had the engine show up on car-part, so I don't have any good pictures.

So the internet thinks there are two versions of the 3.0 - the one used since 2017 in various Lincolns is CGI and aluminum, same as the 2.7. The one that debuted in the 2020 Explorer/Aviator appears to be all aluminum.

Edit: FirstOnRaceDay posted dealer info calling the Explorer engine CGI, so until I see a picture of an all-aluminum 3.0, it's just an internet myth.

The new Aviator and Explorer are on the brand new CD6 platform, a unibody platform designed for transverse FWD/AWD, and also longitudinal RWD/AWD configurations. The Bronco and Ranger are body-on-frame, so not even close. The current US-spec Ranger is on the T6 platform, which has been used for the worldwide Ranger since 2011.

It´s a misunderstanding from an unknown source that´s claiming there´s two different 3-liter EcoBoost with the same bore, one in aluminium and in the superior and much stronger CGI. This is completly wrong and I have tried to change the Wikipedias misleading information which they say have an origin from caranddriver.com from Oct 2016. Wrong information also at the Fordauthority.com.
The aluminium block can´t stand these pressures from a bored 2,7 l V6 .

Please explain further, 11,000hp top fuel drag race engine blocks are milled billet aluminum with steel cylinder sleeves. Why can't a 2.7 aluminum block handle the pressures?

I couldn’t find info on the Hybrid Aviator because Lincoln didn’t provide Block info only heads and pistons (same as 2.7)

A cast aluminum block is exactly as strong as it's designed to be, and there's no reason it can't hold the power. Stock cast aluminum LS blocks regularly hold over 1000hp on over 30psi of boost.

I haven't found a source claiming that the new Explorer/Aviator 3.0 is CGI, Ford's website claims cast aluminum. Is there proof of that?

fords official Specifications on the motor are “COMPACTED GRAPHITE IRON ALUMINUM BLOCK”

meaning the inner “core” of the block (piston sleeves, and crank shaft housing) is iron.

Figure A (Block) - Iron
Figure B (bottom end/ oil pan) - Aluminum
Figure C (timing cover) - Aluminum
Figure D (connecting rod) - Steel
Figure E (Piston) - Aluminum
Figure F (Heads) - Aluminum

ANY Questions?

Yes, it still is not clear for Figure A, is it new technology CGI or old technology Cast Iron?
