Is there anyway to break this down to trim level? were we can look at different alternator without going thru ford.
I looked the OPs up by VIN and even though there're only two options for each engine, wouldn't want to guess if the on difference is in the part description for each. Let me look at a couple different VINs and see.

The 2.7s I checked in various states of trim all had the -B except a base that apparently doesn't have the HVBOM loaded in the parts system yet. I'm to go out on a limb and say if you have High, Lux, SAS (not enough data to be sure) or overhead switches, it likely had the higher output version. The 250A is about $50.00 more with a list price just under $500.00.

Most certain way is looking it up by the VIN or HVBOM unless you want to try and find the engineering number on the alt. 2.7 MB3T-10300-DA is 250A MB3T-10300-JA 210A

So if our alternator goes out because of off roading, warranty is voided and we have to choke up $500?

You're not serious about the labor charge, are you?
“ Technician has verified that bronco does indeed need an alternator. It too is saturated in dried up mud and not a warrantable repair. Estimate: $1191.29” “ The part is $513.13”
Unfortunately I’m not.

Retail time is 3.0 max with testing. I can see adding a little juice for mud but $200.00 and hour labor rate? Holy shit!

Man I've never paid to have an alternator replace. I sure hope these engines aren't so "fancy" that a shade tree mechanic can't replace their own alternator!

Update on the situation. The repair shop was unable to do anything with the alternator. That leaves me at the hands of everyone’s favorite, ford parts. It’ll sit at the dealer until we can get a new alternator or I can find one through an alternative solution.

Option 1
You need to pull the alternator and take it to an alternator shop. Best way to find an alternator shop is to call tractor repair places and see who they use.

Option 2
You need to pull the alternator and take it to a good parts store and see if you can steal the guts from another alternator (f150/Ranger/Mustang). You also might get luck while taking it apart.

Option 3
Open your wallet.

Is that part cost MSRP? And does it include a $75 core charge for each item shipped, where the core charge is refunded if the core is returned to the seller?

Bottom line: The net cost, if you buy from a supplier at a discount, should be much lower.
