I don’t have the M190 either, but there should be a fill plug on the drivers side of the diff next to where the halfshaft goes in. Drain is bottom passenger side.

I'll check it out later today, might need to start over if there is an actual fill plug!

Ok guys @Ducati1098 and @redone17 were correct there IS a drainplug on the drivers side and in front of the half shaft. The original information from @Dorf2point0 was incorrect that you need to fill from the vent barb. As I figured after reading your responses the diff was overfilled by about 10oz since the barb is slightly higher than the fill plug. I had a feeling something was not right from the start of the front diff and now I finally KNOW it's correct so thanks again for providing the correct info!

Here are some pics of the fill and drain plugs for future M190 changes, you can also see the vent hose above the drain plug.

Received my rear diff cover, so going to swap it out one of these weekends. Was thinking about how to go about filling it back up with oil. Had an idea to just use one of those sprayers. HF had some on clearance for $10, so picked up a couple.
Dissembled it and took off the screen restrictor and the head sprayer. Oil won't flow through that, too thick.
Used my heat gun to give a bit of bend in the wand.
Tested it out. Seems to work. Not fast or anything, but it has a trigger lock, so can put it in the fill hole and lock it on, till oil level reaches the fill point. At least I just have to lay there and watch it, no trying to get a squeezy pack up there to fill it and make a mess. :)

I believe you missed my point.. Rather than the fill plug there was the barb.. This is a September 2021 BB.. I did two out Broncos within days of this work, and the barb was in the same location of upper fill plugs on 2022 Wildtrak and 2023 Badlands. Yes, there should have been a fill plug, BUT there was a barb installed..

Okay Sports fans.. Following Carbonsteel recommendations ono Bronco 22 Wildtrak was completed.. The full Monty.. Next up today for 2021 Big Bend with 3.73 differentials .. First off, there wasn’t a fill plug on the front different .. A barb with a hose running up to the engine firewall.. with a combination of the funnel and a fluid pump I was able to seal on the barb enough to get a quart of the good stuff in it.
The transfer case had large Allen socket plugs in it.. Didn’t have the Allen socket set with me.. Still waiting on two more Ford Performance covers.. Ordered three and there was only one in a big box 📦.. They are “investigating” .. 🤣
Below is the barb, and what I found on the plug.. Just 6500 miles on the vehicle.. Barely a half a quart came out..

Question, where do you think Toyota will price/position the 4Runner? With the new Landcruiser dropping down a segment, will they have to drop the 4Runner down too? Like no more $60K limited or TRDPro models? So less lux and 4x4 tech. Or is there room for them to be similar to what they have been for 25 years?

What point did I miss? I posted your original post above that said there was no drain plug and just a Barb and that you filled it there. After I did the same thing and posted what a PITA it was it was then pointed out there is a fill plug. I confirmed that there was a drain plug and re-posted the correct information so nobody with a M190 would do the PITA barb fill.

Took some time off today to get the fluids changed since it's nicer out. Rear axel, Transfer Case, FDU, and engine oil. Replaced that stock rear diff cover and this one seems nice. Heaver most definitely. At least on the next change, I just have to pull the drain plug. Things made easier. :) lol
It's the first 10,000 miles and there was a decent amount of metal paste on the magnet plugs already for the first change for the axels and transfer case.
My cheap sprayers I got, worked great. Put the wand in the fill hole, lock the sprayer head to on position, and pump every little bit to keep the pressure up. So glad, no messes. :)
Also glad I put a catch can on mine. it's been 5000 miles since last oil change and can empty.

The oils were flowing like wine this weekend. At 10K miles (5K interval)...

- Emptied J&L Oil Separator...about half ounce of oily snot.
- Oil & Filter (new Quaker State Full Syn 5-30 / AFE D2 Filter)
- FDU (new Valvoline 75-140) OEM fluid didn't look bad, thin layer of snot on the magnet.
- 7MT (new Redline MT-LV) With all the rattling I figured there would be metal...actually looked good.
- Transfer (new Redline D6 ATF) OEM fluid looked good. No magnet on the drain plug.
- RDU (new Valvoline 75-140) Very concerning...had installed the ARB diff cover and replaced the fluid only 3K miles ago so I was going to let it ride another 5K, glad I didn't. The 3K fluid fluid came out very dark w/ plenty of metal flake and the magnet had big ball of metal flake the size of a marble built up. Looks like I'll be changing again at the next 5K interval.

You last point is one of the main reasons that I say to change early and often. The D44 Advanteks generate more metal for a longer period of time than any other axle I have ever owned or worked on.

Raptor owner here…..2500 miles rear diff fluid was thick gray. The drain plug had a 1/4” of sludge on it. WTF!!!! The quick lube guys at the shop laughed at me that I was going to change my fluids early. I called them back to let them know what I found and show them the video of the sludge. They recommended I take it to main service dept because they may want to open the cover and take a look at it.

so my experience matches with @CarbonSteel also all three were low on fluid as to my standards.

Hit 5,000 miles.

Changed the engine oil, front diff, tcase, and rear diff.

Engine oil was completely black.

Front diff and tcase looked fine. Minor sludge on drain plug.

Rear diff was just like everyone else has reported. Nasty. Looked like 60k miles, dark gray, lots of black setiment, has a ton of red threadlocker or sealant in it as well.

Everyone should absolutely change their rear differential fluid after break-in.

Very MacGyver of you. :)

I picked up a Motive from Amazon for maybe $40? Oil flowed easy and it can siphon as well if needed.

going to have to clean it of gear oil before adding tranny fluid for my T-case. Not sure what to use, just don’t want to use any chemicals. Cleaning the hose will be a job as well, but that’s part of the fun I guess.

If you aren't an EPA employee I use hot water, rubbing alcohol, hot water rinse, then give it plenty of time to dry.

No EPA fed here bud! ;)

thanks a ton. Would never have thought of alcohol. I have some denatured from recent shower reseal with silicone.

Will take a week between when I change the front diff fluid and doing the T-case.
