The LoD brackets look like good insurance for sure. I was a bit skeptical when mounting the RC high winch mount. Wondering how they could get away with the height/leverage point, without any brackets or bracing. I have not used mine yet, but plan on bracing mine now. I know Trick will make it mo'better!

I have the JCR winch plate on order right now along with a winch. I'm trying to find out if I should be concerned about something like this and if I need to add reinforcements.
I believe you do have a concern.

Single bolt makes a nice pivot point.

@Tricky Dick, if you make some bolt on brackets I’ll purchase. I don’t have welding skills or welder, but I have no problem with drilling holes in the frame.
Count me in on this!
Side note:
Shortly after receiving my Bronco, I was on a FSR and while going over a 6' berm of snow and started to slide into a ravine, so I floored it and went into a snow bank bending the passenger side of my Mod bumper into the tire. When fixing the bent bumper I noticed the bracket around the frame horn had broken away from the horn and allowed the bumper to move back about 1/4", they are not very strong and it now makes sense why the factory winch mount has so many more brackets than my IAG Chinese copy, I'll be adding brackets now!

Well it seems I missed this thread last night. So most have responded as I would have, about reinforcing the bumper "pads". I saw the DV8 tow video and it just reinforced what I had thought about the Broncs "pads". When I tore off my bumper I found these behind the pads and knew I would have to add some beef to the "pads".

The reason why I wanted the 'high mount" intercooler installed first because then I can mount my winch between the frame rails, or real close to it. I still plan on reinforcing the "pads" on mine because my bumper has some mean looking shackle mounts and I am afraid of bending the pads when I use the mounts to pull on.

What I planned for mine are similar to the LOD on the outer side, but I would just weld them on. On the inner side of mine will be the winch mounts, I just plan on welding in a thicker piece to the pad. But this all brings to mind another point..............

Double shear.............

Single shear..............................

For those following the whole "tie rod" thing the pics above explain the single/double shear point.

Just thought I would throw that point in there. 😁

Both brackets have the bolt running all the way through the frame, so neither would see a single shear load. The extra frame bolt on the top bracket doesn't make it a double shear, they're both technically double shear. For example, a trailer hitch pin is in double shear, while a hitch ball is in single shear...the discrepancy in diameter of the two for the same load rating does a great job of explaining why double shear is a stronger design.

Ah, yes you are correct. I did not think that one through. my bad. It happens to me on occasion, I usually think twice about posting stuff and I did not do that here. Just saw the single bolt/double bolt and went with it, without thinking about it.

Thanks for setting me straight Tex. 🍻

That sucks. The Everglades winch is under factory warranty along with all mounting points. Maybe there’s an argument for an Everglades after all. Just saying.

Buried to my frame in wet snow. Nose uphill a little so it pulled downwards. 10k winch didn't even bog down.
That sucks. Maybe I need to go w the ARB replacement bumper.

That's the downside of all this "prebuilt" stuff. You buy the baddest Bronco trim, slap a bunch of bolt-ons on it, assume the engineering has been done, and you go out and play. Back in the day you knew you had weak factory junk and it would need some fabbing to hold up.
How do I miss 1 day old posts like this that rack up 7pgs...

No time to read it all, but your misfortune and reporting are extremely timely for me...

After doing Mishimoto high mount all I've been scheming on is a way to get winch between horns. Was going to do a short drum winch tray and hack up plastic base bumper to work but now scheming on warn evo in between to tie mishimoto space gains to ARB skid kit...3/16" A514 steel custom bumper land...

Hi all, I want to verify an assumption I have. The things outlined in red are the/any bumper. Not related to the additional mounting brackets discussed in this thread. Is this accurate? Thank you.

We needed some new excitement, we can only have so many "what trim should I pick" and "how to fit 37s" and "I color matched my shackles" threads. 😁
