Agreed when the materials are mixed as in this metal to composite joint. If they were two compatible composite parts, a solvent weld would have been permanent. There’s actually a lot of glue used in body panel fabrication in vehicles now.
A chemical weld that dissolves the surfaces and bonds two surfaces directly together is vastly different then a glue adhesive that is weak in shear through the adhesive substance itself. I have no doubt you are completely aware of this, however just wanted to point it out for the more general audience that might misunderstand that your statement does not apply to this particular circumstance.

Damn OP that blows. As much as I want to keep throwing shade at Webasto, there is some clear design issues here. Some to me look like they wouldn't be an issue if they didn't have to crank so many out so quickly. Some things almost look like stuff wasn't allowed to set or cure before being assembled and shipped off.

This is quickly becoming the mascot of this forum!
It sure is, I've seen it so many times now I need to know where it came from haha

That is just insane! Ford needs to hire some engineers from Toyota to come over and help them figure out some of the basics, its not rocket science.

In the company I worked for (now retired) engineers were being replaced by procurement people. “We don’t need no stinkin engineers”……it will be the vendors/contractors problem.

Looks like this could be reinforced by thru bolting? Of course with stainless Torx Plus bolts…..

The adhesive used by NASA to install the space shuttle tiles wouldn’t hold up to a lift time of strut use. Pathetic. Of course team Bronco bay has had about a decade of development on this vehicle so one should expect this sort of thing….NOT.

I’ll be drilling and pop-riveting mine if noted to be just glued on arrival

What a terrible design. Why not just drill it in?
Those tops are so thin and flimsy, I doubt a mechanical fastener would hold properly. And I would caution against a DIY screw, rivet or thru bolt fix for fear of cracking the top or creating a place for water to enter. Just my two cents.

Well we should all just stress the hell out of the struts so they fail under warranty. Let ford deal with 10,000 failed strut mounts to force a recall. Don’t want that glass to clip me in the back of head, you know

C'mon Ford, where's the metal hoop around the hatch opening, with integrated threaded studs for attachment points? The hoop would be bonded to the core and epoxied over. That strut attachment needs a complete ground-up redesign. I blend Monday. Can't wait!

From the OP's pictures, it appears there is a metal stud protruding from one of the strut support's "ears". Is this threaded?
