How about the obvious choice, a small torquey turbo diesel?

Cummins r2.8??
Less horsepower and torque than the 2.3 ecoboost, weighs more and much higher maintenance costs - I wouldn't want it even if it was cheaper. Any advantage in fuel mileage would be cancelled out by the higher cost of diesel and the maintenance costs.

No worries about turbos breaking down,
no weird turbo torque curve.
Better real world gas mileage (the eco-boost is horrible under boost)

For people who buy new cars all the time, these turbo motors might make sense, I generally keep a car until the repair cost outweighs the value. I think I put 350,000 miles on my F-150 with the 302.

My 72 2dr ltd 6.6liter made around 170 horse and 9 mpg, my new bronco will make 300 and be chipped safely to 350 and is lighter.V8s are dinosaurs they just sound nice šŸ‘šŸ˜‹
and my 2013 Merc has 5.5 liters, 415 horses, and gets a real 28 MPG top down on the highway at 75 MPH. Also makes a double the torque of that 2.3 at 2500 RPM and about 90 lb-ft more at peak. Comparing a modern V8 to a carb'ed 400 with cast iron heads is ridiculous. Compare modern to modern if you are going to compare at all.

Fair enough but 300 horse in a boxy high sided off-road machine is plenty I want my bronco nimble over the rocks.

Me too!

I also agree that the Coyote is the Wrong V8. The Baby Godzilla would be the better choice.

Sometime not having the "complexity" of turbos and such is very good when your several miles out in the wilderness and start having issues.

@Ford Motor Company please make a V8 Baby Godzilla Package to go up against the Jeeps V8.

30% of people have a bronco and realized it doesnā€™t matter.

The 2.3 and 2.7 have more than any V8 bronco before them.

Turbos make torque and torque makes fun.

Ford Performance has a 500hp rated EcoBeast bottom end for 2.3L to give you an idea of capability.

Iā€™d spend an extra $3,500 for a V8 but Iā€™d rather have the Ford Lion 3.0 diesel that which has averaged 28.5mpg over 63,000 miles in our 2018 Range Rover which is very similar in weight(5,000lbs) and size. The 443 ft/lbs of torque at 1,700 rpms easily pulls my 7,300 lb boat/trailer. Iā€™m going to keep my Bronco for decades and Iā€™d love to have a diesel option.
What a criminally underrated motor, I would take it in a truck over both the 5.0 and entire gasoline Ecoboost lineup. Have driven it in both the Rover and and F150, and it is such a solid performer all around. In the Range Rover it was deceptively quick too, throttle response and torque were incredible in sport mode.

If that was in the Bronco mated to the 7mt, I would probably have to overlook the insane diesel prices right now.

I've got the exact engine I want in the 2.3 Ecoboost. I wouldn't change a thing there. 300HP, torque, light, efficient. I wish I could have had this engine in my old Jeeps or Rover.

I donā€™t need a V8. Iā€™m fine with the V6 in the Raptor.

People aren't just looking for a V8, it's the V8 paired with a nice six speed.

Although not the same tune but the similar base I like the 3.5 biturbo in my expedition. I was on the fence about it when I bought it but I have been very happy with it.

I am very happy with the 2.7 in my Sasquatch 2 door and feel no need for a V8. The gearing is key and the factory supplied gearing in the Sasquatch is perfect and gives the perfect balance of performance and fuel economy.
