So I took the towing package off to get my Bronco sooner and 3 hours into the install, I kinda regretted it. I’ve installed MANY trailer light kits in the past with no issues.“I’ll just do it myself and save money”, I said with my chest puffed up and thinking how manly I am. Yes it was $200 less but HOLY COW FORD!!!!! Why isn’t it just plug and play. I had to run wires from front to back, pull over half of the interior panels off and cut into the factory wiring. What a complete and utter pain in the butt.

Plus the Ford Towing Guide limits trailer frontal area to 20 sq ft if you don‘t have the towing package.

I don’t know what kind of magic sauce is baked in with the towing package but I’ll just wait for mine.

Reading the info at the link on "trailer frontal area", that 20 sq ft. only includes area that overhangs the cross section footprint of the bronco. Not total square footage of the front of the trailer, Big difference.

About to do my 4 pin harness tomorrow. Looks like it should be no big deal. Seven pin looks like a different story....

Not even an option on the Base.

Fortunately, I have never needed a 7-pin in my entire life, everything I have ever hauled has had a 4-pin.

But, if you ordered a higher trim, and ever think you will actually need a brake controller, wait for the tow package.

Yeah I'll just go ahead and keep that towing package on the order thanks. If I'm going to be making big mods to my truck, I'm going to be doing it because it's something the factory can't or won't do for me. (like a roof rack on a 2.7 squatch badlands 4 door, or an onboard air compressor).

That’s what I just installed. They don’t sell the 7 pin. If it’s the ford kit, have fun lol.

why won’t they allow us a factory roof rack on the squatch badlands and just say towing capacity less because of weight etc so gives us the option to remove ourselves later if we plan to tow and want more weight etc

Adding a hitch and a Curt 4 pin connector only takes a bit over an hour to do. Maybe increase it to 2 hours for a first timer. Not a big deal. If you need a 7 pin connector, there are aftermarket means to accommodating.

Keep the tow package or not, but fear of the install shouldn't be a factor.

They are about the same effort if you do a factory-quality install and route the power wire inside the bronco (under interior panels), through the firewall grommet, and to the battery. If you do a budget install and route the power line under the body and along the frame to the battery then it can be a lot faster - just be sure to avoid pinch points, properly armor, and heat-shield.

I have the Sasquatch package on my OBX with tow and roof rack and Safari bar. Kinda odd the Badlands can’t have it

I think I read somewhere because of the steel bash plates adding weight so it subtracts from tow capability. Or why if you choose Sasquatch you can’t have a slide out trunk table or other random items seems quite strange

Do you have a 2.3 or 2.7? i think it more applies to the 2.7

I got worried as well..dropped the tow and after 6 weeks of not being scheduled and reading how hard it was to add a 7 pin later I put it back on.

Got scheduled a few weeks after that.
