Let’s solve the GVWR and payload issue once and for all

Ouch, I was all in on the bronco but this may push me to look elsewhere. This has me bummed out as I was so excited for this vehicle but if I can’t even pull a jet ski or have an overland setup similar to the overland build Ford has been showing off along with the squatch this may be it for me based off of my intended goals.

Hopefully we receive an answer on this or hopefully they are able to somehow increase these limits in future model years.

Lmao dude funny enough while reading this post I went and checked my Corolla and it actually does. Funny, yet disappointing.

There's no good reason that they can't make the GVWR 7000 lbs, except maybe for the fact that they chose to go with the Dana 44 rear axle instead of the stronger 8.8". I guess that's what happens when they talked to more Jeep owners than Ford owners.

816 payload is not that bad for a 2 dr BL sas. To me, BL paired with sas has got to be the heaviest configuration. If 2 door max payload is 1170 (knocked down 354 pounds for BL sas), and you carried that over to a 4 door max payload of 1370, a 4 dr BL sas would be 1,016. A non BL sas maybe a hundred lbs better, and a BL non sas also better. Again, not bad. We need more pics/examples. I think they rate average passengers at 150 lbs, plus 50 lb luggage, then add 50 lb misc, as a general rule to calc payload. So on a 5 seater, thats 1,050. Interesting to see what the threshold is on payload where roof racks get locked out. But it sounds like its around that level if the above is true.

If this is true, I think it might be the dagger for me. A full tank of gas and a few heavier friends exceeding the weight limit is not cool.

Fluids are included in curb weight, so don't count against your payload.

1,016 would be a lot nicer than the OP's FE 680 estimate (not knocking). Need ford to do some clarification before my dealer calls me in. Maybe just getting antsy now that we're getting close.

A 2 door Rubicon has 1190 Lbs of payload and a 4 door Rubicon has 1351 Lbs.
From the yellow picture of a 2 door BL that shows 816 Lbs of payload it seems that the Jeep Wrangler, which is famous in the overlanding community for its very poor payload, has 50% more payload than a similar Bronco.

The door sticker number is not the official payload number.

Here's a Jeep JL with a door sticker that says 850 lbs. The published payload for it is 1,310 lbs.

Please explain the link, then. The JL's door sticker shows 850. Jeep publishes 1,310. How do we reconcile this? I think we reconcile it because tires play into the equation. The payload is 850 on the OEM tires, which are probably P-load, and that's why the door sticker says 850.

The published numbers are the maximum theoretical payload, the numbers on the door sticker are the actual payload as the vehicle was built. If you want to buy a stripper then you will get the theorectical maximum, add any options and that number goes down.

FYI the Broncos at MAP have payload stickers. After going through the photos, i only found three photos where the driver door jamb was captured, and all three had payload stickers...but the quality/lighting/white balance is no where good enough to make out the numbers. Hopefully the Stig could get these?? @618TRVLWILD
