… topic is lockers BUT

The recovery guys didn’t like the aftermarket bumper (brand that is supposed to be a good one) or winch (brand ?)…
Set the tow rope to the A-Frames

Raises questions about having good connections between frame and bumper…

Getting towed out will happen more often than losing a locker

We have forscan lite on our phones but even using the same dongle it just doesn’t work compared to the laptop
Wow first I have heard of this - good to know as I hadn’t tried Lite and would be scratching my head about it

While this is likely true, losing a locker isn’t the only failure that will fault the computer out and leave you stuck without 4Hi/GOAT modes

just about any AWD or ABS module fault will do so, and that includes some more common failures like Wheel Speed Sensors - and even some non-failures like excessive wheel slippage which the computer detects as possible fault and locks everything down

Not my point… once unable to fix problems, you’ll need to be towed out…

… and why I follow people like

This is why we wheel with a laptop as part of our recovery equipment.

It’s resetting the codes, disconnecting the battery (both posts) and then touching the terminal connections together. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes then hook the battery up and reset codes again. This isn’t any kind of approved sequence created by Ford or anything, but it was the only consistent way to completely reset the codes and computers.
Great field fix(y)

To build a black book on recovery.

This reminds me - I need to order some spare wheel speed sensors.

Are these easy to replace in the field?
Can’t post gifs here anymore. Dammit.

“Super easy. Barely an inconvenience”

Just an angled pick and an 8mm socket. Could be 10mm but pretty sure an 8mm. Might need to remove the tires up front-I can’t remember what the factory knuckles are like.

Angled pick as it might make it a little easier to pull the sensor from the plug. Sometimes they need some twisting and a tiny bit of leverage to pop out. I’d also clean the connection with electronics cleaner since you’re in there, then apply dielectric grease to the connections. But that isn’t absolutely necessary.

Been through this a few time. I pack a laptop for most wheeling trips, in fact I bought the laptop mostly to fix the Bronco. They could have driven that bronco out in 2wd if they had cleared codes and hit the 2 hi button with traction control off. I know for a fact that with my part time case you can drive around in 2hi, 4hi and 4lo without an awd module installed.

Can also run 35” tires in front and 40” tires in the back with TC off. Didn’t go to the extent of pulling the module and trying 4H or 4L. Did you just select 4H/4L then pull the harness?

More like I flashed and bricked the awd module. Then bronco then shifted into 4lo while messing with as built in forscan trying to un brick the module. Had a few beers with dinner and went back out to the garaged to messed with the bronco. Forgot that the awd modules was unplugged, cleared codes and went around the block in 4lo. Once you unplug the awd module it act like a normal car, no locker, modes or transfer case. Traction control was disengaged because of the abs fault from the missing module.

Interesting. Makes me wonder what would happen in the situation where the driveline is disconnected and truck is driven out in FWD. Everything was fine until tires spun-then bronco shut it all down.

I don't think it would mater with my part time case, however a 4 auto case would get smoked! I think trailmater had a video recently with a jeep that smoked its 4 auto transfer case trying the same thing.

watched a video of possible failed E-locker which leaves the Bronco as a sitting brick. Is this true? Possible? If so I was thinking about a possible dummy load circuit which could be plugged in, representing itself as a functioning locker and load it presents to the computer. Any first hand experience on a failure?
seems like you're talking about the matt's offroad recovery video where the guy says he broke the locker and it messed with the computer. I'd bet there is much more to the story as it looked like that guy had portals and a bunch of other mods that likely affected that failure.

I doubt portals had any effect on the computer failure....
