My Dealer wants a credit check before placing my order... Anyone else?

If I had to guess Ford ran a "Soft Inquiry" on person's credit.

Don’t think I have them anything for a soft inquiry....oh well chalk this one up to the bronco magic

But seriously, I wasn't asked for a credit check and I wasn't pre-approved either. I've heard of some dealers wanting to do it, but we just said look, we have people closing on houses soon, or refinancing.. So we don't need extra hits on our credit. And so far, those few dealers have backed down from it.

My dealer tried to do that too, he said it's to make sure people can afford the bronco and will actually pick up their order.. I got out of it by showing a bank statement

Mine asked if I was paying cash or financing... I asked if I had to decide now.. he said no... but if I said financing they would need more information and suggested I should just say cash for now and decide later.

Do you already have an account with Ford credit, maybe from a previous purchase? If so maybe the Pre-approval is from that account being linked somehow to the new bronco reservation/order.

I have... And I have a current loan in good standing...

No. But I'm 54 and drove up in a $150k car. I was also dressed reasonably nicely.

People stereotype others all the time (and mostly do it subconsciously). I wouldn't worry about it.
