I have used both KOs and KMs for years, and in recent years, YES, there have been balancing issues. Not all of them, but about 1 out of 5 it seems have a ride quality issue that balancing wont fix. They won't take them back either. I have lost confidence in BFG and the parent company Michellin over this, and have moved on. They were my favorite offroad tire for many years, but now I am done!

Balancing marks? There are balancing marks? What do they index to?

The shop I used has been around a long time. I assume they know about them.
Those red and/or yellow dots on the tire are there for a reason.
I wouldn’t assume anything.

I have a friend that does mods for a car dealership. He too use to use BFG tires only but had balancing issues the past few years. He has since switched to Nitro exclusively and has not bought a BFG tire in at least two years.

So, he went over to the tire buster and had him dismount the tire and rotate it 180 degrees. The balance then only took one 1/2 oz weight.
Does that mean that the tire and wheel were both out of balance and that by rotating it 180 degrees they counterbalanced each other?

I went back and forth on BFG vs Toyo but ended up with BFG because Toyo is discontinuing their C load 315/70s and I didn't want to run into an issue where I had one needing replacement. Toyo still has D load but I was worried about the harshness.
Load rating was also a factor in for me in staying with the K02s.

I have a good friend who is the maintenance foreman for my local County Highway Department.
He swears by KO2's. They run them on 15 trucks or so and have had no issues.
E ratings on the 3/4 ton and 1 ton and C ratings on the 1/2 ton trucks.
I've had my Bronco a year and a half and run KO2 C rated tires, I run them at 35 psi cold and really like them.
My 1 ton diesel will need tires soon and I'm going with the KO2's or their BFG replacement.

Ko2 are notorious for bad balance after they wear a bit. I refuse to have them on my vehicles

30's on the trailer, 37's on the Bronco, 39's on the Gladiator... not an ounce of wheel weights among them and all smooth as glass.

I generally like BFG KO2s and hadn't previously heard of any common balancing issues. THAT SAID, I have the OEM KO2s on my Badlands and 3 of the 4 have a shocking number of wheel weights. Like 6-7 ounces of total weights on a single wheel. I counted about 25-27 quarter oz. weights on this wheel (lost track).

I would be more inclined to believe it's the wheels. I transfered mine to black steelies and they required no weights. See my profile pic.

Installed 315/70/17 C Load KO2's last Friday. Balanced fine and ride smooth. In my experience when I've had balance issues it was due to aftermarket wheels. I'm running the Everglades OEM wheels.

+1 for this. My 315 KO2s are great on Everglades wheels. They were a little squirrely during first few hundred miles (manufacturing oils maybe), however have smoother out fine. I'm around 5k miles on them now.

This thread fascinates me because it’s either people who swear by them on their last 15 trucks or guys who never got them to balance from day one. Maybe there’s significant differences lot to lot?

Traction can be a bit subjective so it’s hard to say either way.

Just an FYI. I was averaging 22.6mpg on the 285/70/17 BFG and when I went to the 315/70/70 I'm now averaging 22.5. Figured it would drop more than that but I'll take it. Yes I adjusted the tire size in Forscan and the speedometer is dead on.
