Others will chime in. But I’m sure less capable vehicles are driving around your area in the winter. In my opinion yes. Just because I believe a 4wd should have all the options within reason and budget to take full advantage of being a 4wd.
4WD and AWD are separate from front and rear lockers. The Bronco handles much better with Advanced 4WD (like AWD in typical crossovers and SUVs). So, I recommend A4WD. But lockers are for off-roading, and if @freebob is a "light off-roader," he won't use it. I do lots of rock crawling in Moab and am a "use it if I have it" person and I don't use the front locker much. The rear lockers is absolutely helpful a lot.

You need that ol' lock in the front where I play, wet, mud covered rocks most of the year, silt covered when not, sometimes add that ice on top.

The answer to everyone of these questions is “ buy a non Sasquatch Badlands”.
That's what I bought. It will do more than I'll ever want to do.

My 2 cents...rather have a front locker and not need it than need it and not have it. Driving trails, I have found occasions to use it, but I could have probably done without it by taking a better line. Still, it's nice to know it's there.

Put yourself in a moment when your seriously stuck in a snow bank or something. You've tried all your special gizmos and GOAT modes to help get you out, but you're still stuck. Will you look at that blank hero switch on the dash and think, "I'm glad I saved a few bucks on that locker"? Other than possibly pulling your butt out, I believe it gets you the better M220 axle in place of the M190, and will also probably add a few bucks to resale value.

Yeah, because of that I purchased a Badlands Sasquatch and to piss them off more it’s a 2 door manual.

I wanted to replace my bronco with a new one. Was think of just a black diamond with rear lock..I do light offroad and live in a in the snowy arera. .So do I really need a front locker.?
@freebob if you can afford it… and you want a front locker buy a Bronco with one , life’s too short to screw around on simple things.

it's gotten me out of a pinch once or twice. But I would add that the swaybar disconnect only comes with front and rear lockers so I would highly suggest the disconnect and you get the front locker as a bonus.

Every single post made before this, and I mean EVERY single post… is wrong. All you need is a solid set of these snow socks.

Ford Bronco Rear locker or both? IMG_4276

Don’t be fooled.. they work in snow, mud, sharp rocks, you can even drive over razor blades if you get the right ones! Says so in the Amazon comments and those have never let me down!

For those who are not used to sarcasm - do not believe a word of the above 🤣

Sincerely a BadSas 4door 7MT wishing everyone the best ❤

Now seriously, are front lockers necessary? Probably not. But make sure you have other means of recovery be it a winch or another vehicle in the party. Happy adventures 🤙🏻

When it comes to off-roading my perspective is, "it's better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it." Hence why I overpack, have too many tools, and plenty of recover gear....lol. But if you are not getting the front locker then consider at least a winch.

I have a 21 FE 4d Sas. Both lockers. My driveway is a 13% grade with many turns which goes on for 1100 feet. This past winter was the first winter I have NOT had to use chains occasionally. I tried the auto 4wd, no worky worky. Rear locker alone in full 4wd, almost. Both lockers, just the ticket! I will never go back. I have a unique situation, so ymmv. As a side note, I also put a winch on front, just in case. Haven't had to use it, on the driveway at least! A few other questionable times, yes, but not the driveway!
