Love child of these 3. I dig it. Way better than any Ford EV. Has more style than Tesla. I put a $100 deposit on the R2. If the R3 is in mid 30s before tax rebate, Rivian will have tons of success.

Headline disappoints

Was expecting to see a new Rivian suspension lineup and comparisons to Eibach, Fox, Bilstein, etc

I mean, a $45k shock absorber would be a decent topic of conversation around here. A $45k EV, well... maybe.

You can get a Tesla for $38k. They aren’t a luxury car.

You can get a Chevy Bolt for $18k after the rebate. $25k before. So, there are EVs for you!
Fair points but I don’t think a few Bolts on the lot invalidates my points EVs are largely way overpriced. The entry Rivian will not exist in practice and only serves for nice headlines that can say “starting at”

First half of 2026? They may be challenged to still be alive as a company by that point.

I really like the looks, just don't know if the company will survive that long.
The same comment people used to make about Tesla

Completely different market at this time. Rivian also stopped production of its new factory in GA to give them more time to avoid going into BK. There been rumors they've been talking with Nissan about a merger or maybe sharing a product with them.

The conversion to EVs is still happening, just not as fast as some people expected. It's going to be another 10 years or so before they are 50%+ of the market, some people where expecting that in the next 5 years.

Looks cool for sure, but I wouldn't call it a shocker. $45K is a lot of money for a small car.
Average cost of a new car is like $48-50K right now.

Small is hard to nail down-something around the size of the Escape or Bronco Sport would have no problems selling to the US market, that is what I consider "small". Something smaller than that would go over like a fart in church.

I’ve not been about EVs yet, but I did decide to reserve an R2. We will see if they are at a point to warrant taking delivery in a few years. I’m averaging 35,000 miles annually, so it needs to make sense from a charging stand point.

And accurately so. I hope Rivian does make it but realism is a good thing. Tesla was about 30 days from bankruptcy, as Elon himself has stated many times.
Automotive is a crazy hard business, much less EV startup automotive. Lots of companies have paraded out great looking concepts that we all loved, that’s the easy part.
Now, the rubber meets the road. Like I said, hope they make it but two years is a long time.

I thought the Chevy Bolt was cancelled for 2024? Or do you mean find some new 2023 Bolt's still on the lots?
Yeah, it’s the 2023s. Apparently the Bolt is going to be reintroduced on the ultium platform. Who knows though….

I think the EVs that make a lot of headlines can definitely be overpriced. But between Nissan, Chevy, Kia, Hyundai, etc… there are plenty of good EVs in the $30k range. But people just don’t write about a fairly priced Kia lol

I can’t get behind Rivian until they change look of the front end.
So you don`t like the DYSON fan headlight look either ? I`m not sure I want to look at that in my driveway every day. The rest if it looks fine to me,just change out the DYSON and I`m good.

Most Americans aren't necessarily anti-EV. We're anti $75k "luxury" EV.

New ICE vehicles can still be had in the $25k range which EV manufacturers have yet to be able to touch. Until then the appeal is very narrow.
you can get a Corolla hybrid for under $25k. It’s not a full EV but it’s getting there.
