I bought the dirty dog product but its still sitting in its box since we're having some 60 degree days here in NY where I like to open the top to first position and the dirty dog says 'not for use with top off'..........blankets may have been my better solution for ease of removing

How easy is it to fold back the dirty dog when you want the top open?

mattress pads seem like a good idea, but then it defeats the purpose of position 1 quickly for a drive on the way home or something... :(
but I might consider it with the way the top flaps with the light bar installed.

I did the same thing, except I put a 2" foam mattress up there. Works great, and when that mattress is not there, it is loud as f**k

Where did you get the mattress? I am researching clear vinyls to add for back windows but they good stuff are expensive

Like others have said Dirtydog 4x4 insulation mat. Just installed last weekend. Should’ve done way sooner. $250.
How much reduction in noise have you noticed? I couldn't get an answer from Dirtydog.

In my OB most of the noise comes from the back windows, there is a huge market to add a layer to the back windows to reduce noise.

I noticed a big difference after installing the DirtyDog headliner but I didn’t use a decibel meter or anything. That being said it probably takes a good 10-15 mins to install/uninstall. If I could go back in time I would probably try the cheap 2” foam mattress solution first before spending $250 on the DirtyDog headliner. Much easier to remove and roll up if needed

yes, didn't cut it. tight fit but worked.
One other thing you may notice is the heat dissipation that the mattress helps with. I remember being in my Bronco with the sun beating down on the soft top and noticed it was really hot. With the mattress pad up there, it acts as insulation.

Is the 2" the max thickness you can go with? Or would a 3" work as well to get even more sound deadening?

I'm planning to go this same route for long road trips.

I tried mattress pad (worked well) and then purchased the Dirtydog headliner. More expensive but I can fold it and put it in the trunk, if out.

In my opinion, 3” may be too thick to slide up under the very rear soft top wear it meets the cross bar. Mine slides over the top of the Bimini shade easily.
