What are your thoughts about adding suspension air bags to the rear for a little more towing capacity. Not a lot of camper options for under 3500#

Anything over mfg spec opens you up to post accident lawsuits and denial of coverage from your insurance. Other then that they may work.

You're correct. They're for leveling and stabilizing the load, not for increasing the capacity.
they do if the suspension is soft by stiffening up the back end.
fwiw, the current landcover defender with virtually the same wheel base and power
is in the neighborhood of 8000#. it has an airbag suspension.

He is asking about the towing capacity and airbags in no way shape or form increase your towing capacity..
And the landrover is designed with airbags, the bronco is not.
Too many variables. Transmission, gearing, axels, suspension, frame, lack of fixed roof, all are items that go into determining the tow rating.

Cooling as well. Both Engine and transmission need better cooling while placed under a higher load. I imagine that is more significant with turbo-charged engines, but I could be wrong.

Airbags won't add any more towing capacity - I use them just to level the rear/hitch a tiny bit if needed . I had removable ones fabricated on my raptor so i could take out when off roading , probably do the same on bronco.
the defender 90 (with coil springs, IFS), shorter wheelbase than the 4dr, virtually the same power has a tow capacity (in the US) of 8200#, turbo motor
i think it's ford being super conservative
i really want the bronco to be the vehicle that LR failed to build.
I understand that, but he asked a simple question of if airbags would increase your towing capacity and they will not.
We all hoped for a tad more towing but in reality it's not happening. I for one do not need it to tow a lot, I have other vehicles for that.
