So …………………………………… not to go kinda off topic but on the way home from my vaca, last stretch coming in PA. I had a bunch of traffic coming up on me fast and I'm doing 70. A couple of SUV's and sedans and then up comes the last sedan and I see smoke coming from the right front and black pieces flying in the air. I let off the gas and before I could say "here goes the tire" KABOOM !!!!!! this thing SCATTERED THE MOTOR !!!!! Engines part flying everywhere !!!! It was like a Nascar race !!!!! He darts across traffic to the berm. A small piece bounced off the hood then the windshield. Thank God it wasn't bigger or go through. I could smell the oil burning as he went by. When you think you have seen it all.

Sorry it was engine related thought I would share.
What kind of car was it?

I will want an ecoboost engine with both port and direct injection to keep the valves clean with a manual transmission. The manual transmission has to have high tow ratings of at least 7,000 lb. If this does not happen then I wait until it does. If they offer the manual with the 2.3 that does not have port injection and only a 5,000 lb. tow rating. Then they have two strikes against them. If they offer the 2.7 with the manual and only a 5,000 lb. tow rating they have one strike against them. I have an 18 year old Ford truck with a manual. I will soon have to decide whether to restore the old truck or replace it with a new one. If t'hey don't offer a manual that is an upgrade to my old truck then restore the old truck it is.

The 2.3 motor would be ok if they updated it with port injection to keep the valves clean like a 2.7. I hate having to buy a new vehicle and then modify it by adding a catch-can to keep the oil away from the intake valves so they don't carbon up. The older Ford manual trucks with gas engines had both spark plug problems and horrible gas mpg so they don't make good daily drivers. My ideal truck would be a F250 extended cab, 6 ft. bed, 2.7 ecoboost, and a seven speed manual. I bale hay. Having a granny gear truck to pick up hay bales out of a field is a must. So is the ability to tow a trailer with a 150 bales of hay. Because of the farm shop and winter I am able to build what I need if Ford decides not to make it. We currently have an F150 with a 2.7 and the 10 speed as a short term truck until we either buy or build what we need. My older truck is a F350 with the 7.3 diesel that shipped before the powerstroke. So it is really slow. But has good MPG and in granny gear will pull anything you can hook up to with logging chains.

I'm leaning towards the 2.7, just to ensure good power in all conditions, but am not real familiar with the 2.3 or how it performs on Ranger. I didn't realize until reading this thread that injection is different for both engines. Interesting.

I’d greatly prefer the V6, but I guess I’m gonna buy whatever I can get with a manual... though I’ll be pissed if the V6 is auto only

I realize times have changed. However I would like v-6 2.7. The only new vehicle I have ever bought was my 89 Ranger, 2.9 V-6, manual transmission manual transfer case, no cruise, no air, manual windows and locks. Drove it for almost 20 years before the frame gave up. Had about 280,000 on it. I guess being over 50 and maybe it’s my mid life purchase, but I want manual with a V-6

I know in my mind that the 2.3L would be an adequate engine for the Bronco, and do the job I need. But I know in my heart I would get the 2.7L, because let's face it.......it's bigger, and got more power. :)

Times have definitely changed. In '94 I bought a new 4x4 Ranger with a 2.3 liter 4-cylinder. 98 HP and I thought it had plenty of power, even on some pretty intense inclines while four-wheeling. I loved that truck. Too bad it was a single cab and I was just staring my family. Traded it in for an Escort. Still one of my biggest regrets.

What engine will you be getting? Also give reasons why you will be getting it.

The Choices are:
2.3 EcoBoost - 4 cylinder
2.7 EcoBoost - 6 cylinder
3.0 EcoBoost - 6 Cylinder
The biggest one I can get. Because, going fast and stuff.

My current vehicle is a 2016 F-150 Supercab 2wd with the 2.7leco and a 6spd Auto... I have been super impressed with this engine since new. It can tow up to 7k although the most I have towed was maybe half that, however it did it with ease.
Put in in "Sport mode" at lights and it scoots impressively.
On the freeway I can see up to 23mpg avg.
Currently have just over 50k on it with no issues.

I believe Ford updated (After 2018?) the current 2.7l to a port injection as well as direct injection, so no worries of carbon issues on the valves. Plus it's now 400ft/lbs...!
My truck is probably around 4600lbs or so and I can't imagine the Bronco would be much more...?

This or the 3.0leco would be my choice depending on specs.

I plan to use it for camping, off roading, etc. so larger tires, accessories would be in my future.
The 2.3l has great specs for a four pot, but prolly not suitable for me personally.
