Windshield wiper pump failure replacement

I believe my wiper pump has crapped out on my 2.7L Badlands. Anyone know how difficult it is to access for replacement? Not sure you can even see it on the 2.7L installation.

I haven't replaced one personally, but it looks like the whole reservoir has to come out. Doesn't look very difficult though.

Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

1. 
   Siphon the windshield washer fluid out.
   1. Open the windshield washer fluid reservoir cap.
2. 1. Siphon the windshield washer fluid.
      Use the General Equipment: Fluid Suction Gun
      Use the General Equipment: Fluid Container

1. 
   Remove the windshield washer fluid reservoir fill neck.
   1. Detach the windshield washer fluid hoses.
2. 1. Remove the windshield washer fluid reservoir fill neck retainer.
      Torque: 42 lb.in (4.8 Nm)
3. 1. Remove the windshield washer fluid reservoir fill neck.
4. 1. Remove the windshield washer fluid reservoir retainer.
      Torque: 42 lb.in (4.8 Nm)

1. Remove the fender splash shield.
   Refer to: Fender Splash Shield (501-02 Front End Body Panels, Removal and Installation).

1. 
   Disconnect windshield washer fluid reservoir wiring harness and hoses.
   1. Disconnect the hoses.
      Refer to: Washer Hose Coupling (501-16 Wipers and Washers, General Procedures).
2. 1. Disconnect the windshield washer fluid reservoir wiring harness.
3. 1. Unclip and position aside the wiring harness.

1. 1. Remove the retainer.
2. 1. Remove the retainer and the windshield washer fluid reservoir.
      Torque: 42 lb.in (4.8 Nm)

Installation

1. NOTICE: Do not operate the washer pump prior to filling the windshield washer reservoir. Failure to follow this instruction may result in premature pump failure.
   To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Just as a random thought: have you checked the washer pump fuse? I believe it's fuse 16. Took mine out to the snow last year during a deep freeze, and my summer blend fluid froze over. I mistakenly tried using my pump and it blew out the fuse.

When I got home and my fluid thawed back, I replaced the fuse and all was good again.

Ahhhh, excellent advice!!!! Hadn’t checked that. Probably the case as we just had a cold snap here in Houston…..19 degrees…..

Currently at the dealer to re-flash the wiper motor EPROM(?).

Saving this thread... I'm also in Houston and I normally fill to the brim with rainx brand before taking a car in to a dealer but I forgot when I had a trailer wire installed and the dealer filled me up with the cheap stuff that froze.

I'll check fuses tonight or this weekend and try to remember to report back.

Dealer (Joe Myers) just told me they are replacing the pump. Perhaps it coincidentally failed and not due to our freeze? Had the Green RainX in it….

Good info. I haven't checked my fuses yet, but weird that it failed like that randomly. Although after some searching it does appear to be an issue. Might even be a pinched line although I don't hear the pump trying at all so I think mine is dead as well.

My old Nissan I'm sure froze many times and never had a problem thawing out. Wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee is fine as well.

Fuse was blown in spot 16!

The spare listed in the manual was empty so I borrowed the 10A fuse for upfitter switch #4 which was next door to the washer motor.

After I put in a good fuse it fired right up. No damage from freeze I don’t think.

Got some 10A fuses on order for the upfitter replacement now.
