Good post I agree. I'm clumsily trying to wish well to the people there that face a complex situation like you say without going too far into politics or topics that might send the conversation off the rails.its not "the leadership" - its car manufacturing history is not "thousand year" either - Its that CHina is just learning how to design cars that appeal to an international audience. SOmetimes they hire European and US designers to lead. But the kids coming up through design programs in China dont typically go over to Art Center, not becasue they are "blocked by the government" - its becasue its hard to do that. Hard to get accepted by Art Center, hard to pay for it, hard to get parents and grandpartent that will pay for you to study overseas to be a doctor or lawyer - to convince them to pay $60k per year for you to "be a designer" - Wha?? Its just hard on so many levels.
And China needs to create vehicles that appeal to its own market.
Its a really complex situation, not just the government.
But for sure, there will be tons or extremely well built Chinese EVs coming to the US - with varying levels of design that appeals to the US market. Because they can make stuff, really really well.
Back on topic: Considering the two vehicles I like most right now are the Bronco and Defender... I don't hate this love child haha
