Lol..the
Most over hyped disturbing thing on a car
Nowadays to people…never bothers me..just take a fraction of a inch of pressure off the brake and it restarts…but yeah..i always try to figure how it does its thing, gas, AC, length at light etc

7 speed Manual pretty much negates the ASS

The Auto Start/Stop system takes into account the condition of your vehicle—temperature/battery health/power demand/etc.—to determine whether it should activate.

For example, the battery on my wife's Escape needs to be replaced and ASS hasn't activated in a good 6-8 months now.

(And yes I know I should replace her battery but I tend to suffer from a condition known as "overwhelming laziness".)
Didn't read past this post, but my '19 JLUR went for 3 years like this before the battery finally wouldn't start the engine ;)

Nobody is that lucky. Either your engine wasn't up to temperature yet, or the battery draw was above the deactivation threshold.

I normally cruise around in Normal mode with the Auto Start/Stop engaged. The other day, while sitting at a red light, I noticed the ASS didn’t kick in. I manually disengaged it, then re-engaged it. Still doesn’t seem be active regardless of heater, lights, AC being on or off.

Did Ford quietly make it go away with a software update?

Not complaining mind you, just curious.
Well I can tell you my ASS is right where it has always been. Mine starts pretty good. Sometimes have to kick it in the AM to get it going. It's much worse for the wear, but at 70 years old, it's still a pretty good ASS. Sorry couldn't resist! :0)

I have never used this on my F-150. It's a pain in the ASS. I've read a number of articles and on average, driving habits included, it doesn't give you that great of mileage improvement. My 2¢.

If it does get stuck again try cod liver oil. But only the 5w30.

Same with mine. My auto start/stop hasn't kicked in for several months. I"m also getting the ford pass messages of "remote features disabled due to low battery voltage" several times a week. Battery is 15 months old and I only 4300 miles on it.

I'm starting to get so used to ASS that I keep expecting it from my other vehicle as well. Before I had it, I never thought I'd be an ASS man.
Bruh.... fuck that ASS (giggity).

Some joker at work would randomly put the work truck into Eco mode which apparently turned on the ass, which caused the the engine to.... stop. It took about half a year of the truck randomly "dying" at stop signs (and me having to turn the key on and off to restart it) before i realized WTF was happening...

It only activates if you are sitting idle with the clutch not engaged which for me is practically never.

There's a lot of criteria that needs to be met before ass engages; battery soc, coolant temperature, electrical loads, and as said before, brake pedal pressure, and even nudging the steering wheel while stopped may prevent ass from engaging, or start vehicle shortly after. It's quite a list of inputs that are taken into account before the vehicle decides to shut itself off.
Typically what we've noticed with the make/models I work on, if someone complains that ass doesnt work like it used to, the battery is dying. Still may crank, start, no problem, but the pcm wont activate ass.

Wish mine would stop working. I hate it. I have the override but still have to install it.

I don’t mind it on my BMW much (but I keep it off and BMW remembers if you turn it off next time you start up).

I hate it on my Bronco though. I figured out why. First off, a lot of times it’s pretty abrupt on my Bronco. Subconsciously it feels like I’m stalling out. I have an auto bronco but I’ve driven a bunch of manuals in my life. I think it feels like a mind *&$@, like you’re about to take off at a red light and accidentally mess up the clutch and stall out.

It doesn’t help that the first few weeks of having my bronco my battery was apparently low or something and I was first in line at a red light. ASS kicked in, but when it went to start back up everything just died and stayed dead for like 3 minutes.

I don't know which one you got, but if you got the $100 one, and you can return it or sell it, you can get the $50 one off Amazon that doesn't require any disassembly in 5 minutes to plug in above the driver side kick panel. Mine works perfectly.

As much as many of us don't like this feature, having it not work could be signs that something isn't right.

And no, Ford didn't do anything to disable it. However they did remove it from the newer f-150s because of the chip shortage.

Joke's ASSide, have you changed your brake pedal foot pressure at all? Too light on the brake and your ass won't engage.

I actually use this as a technique when I know I'm not going to be stopped long and let the starter live 1 out of a bajillion more starts
Nope. I wear heavy boots most days, so I ‘m not delicate on the pedals 🤷🏻‍♂️
