With the paltry tow limit on this vehicle is a brake controller even useful? Maybe. I don't know. I don't own any type of trailer (just a hitch-mount cargo tray).
I'm contemplating installing brakes on my less than 2500lb off-road trailer for on-trail control. Having that extra help on a steep hill could be very helpful.

Hard No. After market class IV. With appropriate modifications, should be able to tow 5000 lbs with no issues...

It's a 2" receiver so it's a class III hitch. There's a lot more that goes into a vehicles tow rating than the hitch strength. A class III will take up to 8000lbs towing weight. I'd venture an occasional recovery from it would be fine at 10k.
2” does not equal class III. The Bronco is a 2” class II hitch.

Can you provide a reference for that? That would be an extreme departure from pretty standardized class system for hitches.

Says on the Canadian b&p that the brake controller wiring is not included in the tow package anyways. As far as the class 2, it's been talked about in every towing post I've seen so fsr. Lol

Maybe stated another way, it is a 2" class III size receiver with a non class III tow rating of 3,500 lbs.

That's the point I was making in a much more concise way.

$600 for a hitch and wiring harness? No, not worth it.

I’m not sure it matters as much what you get with other vehicles (the Bronco probably doesn’t need a trans cooler or larger radiator for the 3.5k rating). To me it’s just expensive for a basic hitch and harness. Hitch should be less than $150 aftermarket and a good plug in harness and factory “replica” mount and 5/7 pin connector about $100-$120. I can install it myself, if you can’t , figure $150 for labor. That’s about 40% off for aftermarket. I will also hopefully add a class III hitch as well for about the same $.
My time is too short to do this myself. I'd rather have the Bronco come out of the factory ready to go.

Right, I know the advantage of having a hitch receiver (which I plan to get regardless). The question is whether the factory option is worth the $600 or if an equivalent (or better) aftermarket solution will be available for significantly less.
I figured it was better to have it than not have it all I got it with my black diamond build

I change my own oil too, probably not worth it, but it’s therapeutic. I just added the prices in to evaluate cost both ways.

Don't think it's worth it , maybe it if had a higher tow rating.

Says no controller... doesn’t say no wiring... but I’m not arguing that it does have wiring.

I already have a winch mounted on a hitch that will mount up... so putting the block on a tree and looping back to the vehicle gives me double the hitch rating... plus most recoveries aren’t a deadlift of the vehicles weight... so I’m content with the 3500 lbs.
