Yes, it's worth the difference. You always get the biggest and best engine. Everyone who says otherwise just thinks it's cool to have a manual and is rationalizing.
It is cool to have a manual if you like driving a manual, and to those people it is more important than their 0-60 time. I’ll agree with you on the part about bigger and best engine if you are going with the automatic either way

Does the power difference between the two justify $ 3,000. Up charge. If a 2.3 can power a ranger , I’m sure it will push the little Bronco pretty well. Any thoughts.
I will choose the 2.3 engine because I will not be towing anything. I don’t have a jet ski, pop up camper, or trailer. It is just myself and my wife so it’s not like we will have the added weight of five people in the Bronco all the time. The Bronco will be my daily driver and I will average 12,000 miles a year making mpg a consideration but not a priority. My Jeep gets 16mpg so it’s not really an issue but higher mpg equates to greater range and that is always better to have vs less range.

Jeeps have been using a 2.0 liter engine on a similar size and weight vehicle for years so a 2.3L is even better. For me and my purposes I not need the 2.7L engine.

I love rowing gears. I’d take that over a slightly faster engine. Neither engine are that special.
Have you driven anything with either power train to say neither are special?!? I haven’t heard a single person who doesn’t love the 2.7.

2.7 is absolutely a better option (for me). I don't plan on spending most of my time in the Bronco going 3mph over a boulder so I don't need a "C" gear. I'll spend much more time as a daily driver in which I don't want to be shifting permanently in traffic (so I don't care about a manual). I do care about good acceleration and modability, seeing what has been done on 2.7's I can't see why I wouldn't want it :)

..oh and repost similar threads all day long, I'd much rather see an engine discussion for the 15th time than a poll about some mystery topic, B&P rhetoric or which dealer can I go to :)

I agree but at the same time, I've searched as well and there are just so many post about people complaining about colors and options and stickers that it is hard to actually filter down to the real substance. Not to mention a post frenzy can cause 18 pages in just a few hours!

But yes.. to the OP, there are some huge threads about this. Forget the transmission (because if you MUST have a manual, then this is a moot topic)... the concensus is the the 2.3 is more than capable of doing everything you need it to do. However the 2.7 will have to work less to do it... especially if you start talking 4 doors or heavily loaded Broncos.

As for MPG... that is nothing but opinion right now because of no official numbers, but many feel that the 2.7 will only be a little less than the 2.3..and in cases of high load may provide more.

With respect to OP, it almost seems like a lost art these days with members unwilling to query a search on forums.

Exhaustive, relevant threads that talk about this topic populating on just page 1 include:
2.3 ecoboost impressions
2.3 v. 2.7
test driving 2.3 vs. 2.7
tuning a 2.3

Bumping old threads won’t charge ya a thing, honey.

if you are towing on the highway even a 1500lb trailer you would want the 2.7. That’s why I’m getting the 2.7.

It's worth it. Better to have the bigger engine and not need it then to get the smaller engine and be wishing you got the larger one.
It's better to have lube and not need it than to need it and not have it

Do you want a 0.575L combustion every 180 degrees or a 0.45L combustion every 120 degrees?

Ultimately her choice depending on budget but I'm gunning for the 2.7.

I've spent too much time driving slow cars -- fullsize Dodge conversion van and two 4cyl Milans. I bought the Flex with EB so I could finally pass vehicles without a running start.

My wife has been complaining about how slow her hand-me-down Milan is, especially with AC running.

You know... the one fact that may be worthwhile is WHEN does the high torque kick in for each. Love these marketing about how much HP and Torque something has and then they leave out the required high RPM to get it.

One of the most impressive DD engines I every had was that little 4 banger diesel in my VW. That torque was right off throttle.. God that was fun!

Depends:
If you are going 10AT anyway, then yes 2.7
The trade off comes with 7MT or 2.7 w/AT

That is a hard one that I think about every time I drive my 6MT Jeep and my wife’s 8AT Audi Q3. I think if 4 door I may lean 2.7, but on the 2 door leaning 2.3 MT/don’t know the answer yet.

I know if Ford had offer 2.7 with manual, that is what I would do.

Thanks for the comments. I guess my decision will be based on Fords pricing.

To me, it came down to "do I want the engine they use in a bigger truck, or one they used in a focus" (ignoring the ranger of course... haha). I also like that the 2.7 has port and gdi, and for some reason the hydraulic roller rockers get me where it counts.

Find out what F-150 with the 2.7L and what Ranger with the 2.3L weighs similar to the Bronco you want and go test drive them. They both have the same 10A that's going in the Bronco, so have at it. You can decide on what you want by the end of the day (or until the pricing tool that shall not be named comes out and you know what the *actual* price is going to be).

I'm going with the 2.7. I drove a 4runner for a while and couldn't handle how slow it was trying to pass someone on the freeway in Colorado at elevation. I'm sure the 2.3 is fine, but plan on keeping this Bronco for a while and want to have no regrets!
