I saw what the inside of these stock mufflers look like elsewhere on B6G;
https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/thre...for-more-sound-video-sound-clips-added.67056/

WhoTF would put a moving part inside a muffler?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I am convinced that these car manufacturers are hiring engineers with tons of degrees out of Mumbai who's only hot rodding experience is with Cushman three wheelers!!!
Anyways, I am not springing for an exhaust right now, but I damn sure don't want my flapper valve corroding shut...WTF?!?
I forgot to get a stock video, but here's one sans muffler;

Plasma cutter has dirt dobber parts in the air intake, so I had to use the die grinder with a radiac wheel, and I shoulda scrutinized the pictures from that other thread better...

Sawzall went most of the way thru the flapper, bigass cold chisel and a hammer did the rest.

Hey Sparky! Your welds suck!!!
Yeah, but when the welder's been stuck in the back of the garage for two years, and you forgot you installed a 30A circuit to run it, so the wire feed don't bog down when you're running it with a 30ft extension cord, well, excuses, excuses.

There's really not a whole helluva lot of difference with that COS (Chunk 'o Shit) flapper removed, but it gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling.
Ya'll's mileage will vary...

So is the valve supposed to open when the exhaust builds enough pressure? Iā€™d sure like to know the purpose of it. Moving parts inside a muffler sure canā€™t be expected to have a very long life span.

A quick google search, the flapper has to do with different mode settings and turbo boost. I never knew.

Thatā€™s the raptor, this is a spring loaded door that only opens with enough exhaust pressure and nothing else

I love how 20% of the posts on this forum are people removing / cutting off parts that have been engineered for their vehicle yet the person removing them doesnā€™t have a clue what it does or assume it hasnā€™t been through a durability test. Lol

Listening to the before/after clips, that little valve smooths out the grumble and pop produced by engine deacceleration. Just another tool to tune the exhaust, that's all.

There's waaaaayyyy too much fab went into to this thing just to create more back pressure...which is what it does.
And more back pressure is always B-A-D.

So the compooter is always optimistic; last tank it said 20.7, and the maths werked out to 20.48.
I reset it (20.7 MPG) when I reinstalled the moofler, drove to town today, ran some errandos, and came home with this.
Preliminary results are extremely gratifying;
