This was the scene after the factory plug pull.

its hard to tell from this picture but you need to raise the driver's side to get the most oil out on the 2.7L engine .... i dont know where the drain is on the 2.3L ... also use the plastic lift that you have on both drivers side wheels .... front AND back

Crap.... really?! I hated lifting my old cars / pulling on to ramps to change the oil. I was excited to not have to on this since I can fit under

It definitely helps get out the last little bit from the pan but thereā€™s always residual used oil left in the engine. Itā€™s a fools errand to think youā€™re ever getting 100% of the dirty oil out.

It does, but again; life goes on. Iā€™m not shaking this thing back and forth to see an extra drop and then thinking, ā€œIā€™m glad I got that out, phew!ā€ Like I just saved the world. šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£

I take it back the the dealer. They are only a couple bucks more then if I do it. By time you take the oil to a recycle place, etc., it's not worth it.

Cool!!!
For me the dealer quotes between $50 - $100 (extra for full synthetic)

Wal-Mart: $40 for 10 quarts of full syn 5w30
$6 filter cartridge

A few miles Away is an oil recycling place

Knowing I did it..... correctly is priceless

"Mr.Schmancy said: Check out this plug. Has a drain valve, doesn't need a separate piece.

bytheway said: Half the reviews say it doesnā€™t fit
Well, I took the risk, ordered one, and here is what I find out.

Yes, it does fit. (No issues on the 2.7 whatsoever)
It has a magnetic tip. (should catch metal that is magnetic)

It's like the others in that it doesn't positively "lock" against the external tabs and relies on a spring washer for tension. I put 500 miles on it so far and no leakage, but I still want to safety wire it so that there is no chance of it rotating, because it "feels" too easy to rotate by hand. Other than that, it appears nicely made and has a nice little ball valve and a drain cap. That will make controlling the gush of fluid much easier, and as a result oil changes will also be easier to accomplish.

Overall 4/5, If it had been predrilled for safety wire, I would have scored 5/5. Works perfect and the price was not excessive.

I just got dong doing my first oil change with my son. They were not lying about the oil coming out fast! We are talking like a fire hose fast šŸ˜³šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£. My son had the drain plug and I had the pan and we were ready and it didnā€™t even matter lol. Oil everywhere!

I put the Ronin plug in to make things easier and it went in just as prescribed. Very simple after watching this video on it.

I then used LiquiMoly Ceramtec and filled with LiquiMoly 5w-30 and a Motorcraft oil filter cartridge.

TAKE NOTE: The replacement Motorcraft oil filter does not have the black ends on it like the one you more than likely are replacing. That is ok and the correct part.

All in all. An exciting oil change and a little life lesson for my son. :)

How's the plug holding up so far?
I wouldn't worry about the valve moving as there is an o-ring cap that would keep oil from getting out, if it gets past the valve.
My concern is oil leaking past the o-ring on the valve stem.
Have you had any leaks there?

No leaks yet, I have a few thousand miles on the plug.

Thanks,
I like that one, I'll put it on at my next oil change.
There was another one I saw that I liked better and it was about $55. I will see if I can find it again.
