You realize the Bronco gets worse gas mileage than the Bronco with its "modern" engine and 10 speed auto, right? On a recent road trip in my 4Runner TRD PRO, with its ancient 4.0 and 5 speed auto I got 21.9 mpg on regular gas.
The 17 mpg on a sasquatch bronco is excusable / better than most anticipated. At least I anticipated in 2020 before they released stats…. It’s lifted on 35s… I usually average around 15.5/16 around town. Although premium isn’t really necessary.

I get the GX is heavy and body on frame, but it’s a 3 row suv on standard road tires and used by many as a family hauler. The 17 mpg is definitely viewed as a disappointing figure, whereas I think most guys here were actually thankful when they learned the sasquatched bronco was 17 mpg not mid/low teens. They were probably getting 13/14 mpg on their lifted wranglers with 35s
^^^ this. I will gladly take 17 mpg from the factory on 35’s than what is rated At 17/18mpg on 32’s with the 4runner. And I bet I’ll be able to accomplish similar numbers on 35’s with a light foot like you are with the runner.

Being someone with a problem with seeming to want to own every type of auto I see, it's a relief when I see one I have zero interest in.
LMAO I am the same way. I am glad I am not interested in the GX or LC. However, if the 4Runner comes with 35's then I might be interested. Highly doubt it will though. Phew.

Agreed. The sas bronco getting 17 is a freaking accomplishment. Partially due to their C load 35s (which are rare). The fact I could hit 20 mpg on the highway is an accomplishment and marvel engineering. It’s a decently efficient monster truck.

now the GX on the other hand. 3 row suv, heavy yes, body on frame yes, but nobody wants to hear 17 mpg on a pedestrian build like that. Expectations are totally different. And it’s a 2024, three years later into this PHEV environment. Everyone chastised the outgoing MPG at 16. And that was based on a platform 14 years old. Think how much has changed in the current environment. And for a conservative brand like Toyota/Lexus to spend their sweet time redesigning this to only improve 1 mpg is a failure. I’d almost rather have the outgoing v8 at a 1 mpg penalty over a v6.

and deep down, I really don’t care if the bronco got 17 or 14. I really wouldn’t. It’s my fun car. Now proposition me to trade in my family hauler for a GX at 17 mpg unmodified on street tires gulping premium and racking up way more miles, it just seems like an unnecessary penalty. That’s the equivalent of 14 on regular. A Tahoe get 21 city/28 highway. Food for thought.

I do still love the new GX, but here’s to the hybrid variant…

Which Tahoe config gets 28mpg?

Google fail. That's the best advertised mpg that pops up when you google Tahoe MPG, but apparently it's for the turbo diesel variant.

I'll wait for the Land Cruiser - should be ~$10k less. I don't need the fancy interior and there are several Toyota dealerships nearby that always sell at MSRP.

These are all new designs, not refreshes, Toyota is moving all new BOF truck models to the new "TNGA-F" platform. The Toyota Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia and Lexus LX have already moved over to the new platform.
------------------------------------------------------------
June 8th, 7pm Toyota begins rolling out the first of three new BOF SUVs on their new TNGA-F BOF platform. See the youtube link below for the 7pm reveal.

First Up, the Lexus GX550, next up will be the Toyota Land Cruiser this fall and the third will be the new Toyota 6th gen 4Runner this winter.

From the GX teaser photos below you will see Toyota is rolling out their flagship Lexus GX model first. From the upright windshield to the rugged, boxy styling, you get a taste of what influences we will see on all three new models, but of course all three will be unique. You also get a taste of Toyota's new direction with their recently introduced 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter, a factory built rig.

Triple trio would be nine. This math is suspect. Also I don't care about this Japanese crap.

Can anyone guess what Toyota is up to?
They are validating the Land Cruiser coming back leaks ;)

I do find it interesting that Toyota can make the business case for 3 midsize body on frame SUV’s. Ford could probably sell as many Everests as they sell Bronco. .

Nissan, GM, Kia, and Mitsubishi sell some globally and won’t federalize a single one.

Also, a $58k GX is less capable than any Bronco. The off road goodies come in at the $70,000+ price levels and I don’t expect that to change.

Why are we talking about Lexus when Mitsubishi is toying around bringing the Pajero back? We will all be selling our cars and getting in line once this bad boy comes out (kicks the tires and pats the roof).
