My bronco is my family car. I feel safe in it. The ratings are quite good and the real world crashes I have seen the Bronco took it like a champ. Here are some photos I saved from I believe the IIHS website.

Comparison from my most recent vehicle and a Bronco in the same exact crashes. Tell me which one you would prefer to be in.

Dodge Grand Caravan (You can find 2009-2020 Dodge Grand Caravans and Chrysler Town & Countrys pretty much everywhere you look on the road. Extremely common vehicle) Vs Bronco

Nevermind all the additional safety features in the Bronco like the airbags (including the side impact airbags for the rear passengers that Wrangler does not have) Ford co-pilot 360 to aid in accident avoidance, etc. I am pleased with the overall ratings the Bronco gets and the real world incidents I have seen.

The good news is that the crash test ratings have been completed and it scored pretty dang good
I think five out of five stars in all but one category.

The other good news is that crash tests are scored amongst weight class. So unless you are up against something as big or bigger than a bronco, you’re likely still the winner In most accidents

The only thing that prevented it from a perfect rating was the head rests and the headlights - and I guess the headlight ratings are pretty extreme and hard for any manufacturer to exceed. My headlights are certainly fantastic at nighttime. Way better than any other vehicle I have had. So the actual crash ratings were great.

Wouldnt put my child in the drivers seat of one, but for an experienced driver it s what it is. I like my chances in the Bronco over an Accord if they meet head to head. Greater mass usually wins

I always like to ask folks who show such concern for crash ratings if when you operate your vehicle , do you wear a helmet? Proven time and again, a helmet worn inside a vehicle will increase one’s chances of survival and decrease severe head trauma. So far the replies have always been, “. Nope”.

Keep in mind that the IIHS does five different crash tests, and a company like Volvo or Mercedes does over two dozen crash tests. The Bronco scores decently, and real-world crashes have many more variables that tests can't duplicate. It's a heavy vehicle and safer than a Jeep, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I'd rather put my teenage daughter in a Bronco than so many smaller Corollas, Civic, etc., that you see teenagers driving. Mass always wins. I spent over 20 years in the collision repair market and saw hundreds of vehicles involved in fatal two/multi-car accidents where cars with 5-star ratings were destroyed by a large truck or SUV. At about 5,000 pounds, a Bronco has more mass than most cars on the road. The big danger for death in an SUV or truck is a rollover; often, those are from excessive speed or driver error.

You’re not actually saying that all vehicles with higher crash test ratings are automatically “boring,” right? That would be an impressively narrow worldview.

Free men don't need Government crash ratings. Who cares about how they rate it, or clearly lack of initiative to even bother. The IIHS put this thing through the ringer and it came out flawless. Enough said.

Most SUVs, particularly body on frame SUVs, are going to have a 3, it’s just saying “hey physics never takes a day off so if you drive this like an idiot you’ll put it on its roof”. If you look at the IIHS rating it did quite well. Modern vehicles are vastly safer than anything 10+ years old.

It’s about perspective to me - the bronco has more airbags than my JLUR so I call it safer. It’s also one of the biggest vehicles on the road so I think it’s fine. I’d rather be in a 3 star bronco Sasquatch over a 5 star rating sedan in a real world crash
