Yep, same issue with those little bastards nesting in MA. All of Nauset Beach is closed to vehicle traffic until further notice, when the chicks have left the nest or whatever. The beach is probably closed 6-8 weeks per year. I’m not anti bird, but it seems like they could naturally be kept out of the people corridors if the traffic and people were allowed to continue activities during nesting season. There is plenty of inaccessible beach they could nest on.
There are plans being worked out to move of protect nests early on with our state, county and our “lobbyist”. The Long Island Beach Buggy Association. One moron drove on a dune at one of our beached near the birds and caused the entire beach to be shutdown. He was caught but don’t know the outcome. The fines are high for disturbing a plover nest.
