you'll probably be good for 3 inches before messing with the diff or axles. there are company's that make longer shafts for the axles

So much could be done with the above..
But I'm not gonna fall for it

Nothing that small ever hurt any reasonably-built chassis. A common misconception is that the standard shafts aren't enough to turn those big ones over. It really depends on how hard you want to push your rig through the mud or over boulders and along the trail and what you do when you get stuck.
