Can you show a pic of the small pin taps?
Sorry for the delayed reply. They usually come with the pig tail but it isn’t listed they do. It’s the little 2 jumper in the bag.

Pretty cool so you poke the small taps from the back of the plug to get the +-?

Very nice. I’ve got a V2 in mine. Mounted with a visor clip going behind the plastic header trim along the top of the windshield. Had to shim it with some foam but came out slick. I didn’t do a mirror tap just ran a wire from an add-a-fuse from the box behind the knee board.

How’s the performance been behind those black dots? I first looked at that spot and wondered about them blocking the signal.

Matrix dots generally don’t hinder performance. But it’s a Mike Valentine product so it definitely isn’t my first choice. This detector constantly gives max bogey counts for single source detections and k band is god awful. Which in Dearborn is truly unfortunate because the next city over uses a lot of low powered K band and you can easily get picked off before this thing alerts. I’ve basically used this detector as an extra because it’s the slimmest arrow model available so it’s great for travel and hopping around in vehicles. But this is a toy not a daily so I don’t mind too much about it’s downfalls especially since this isn’t exactly a speed machine.

so does a laser detector actually work? or is it just a notification that you will be getting a ticket?

On my max 360c it works great. Usually you get a warning blip as they steady it or from the car further down the road. Laser produces a small beam that has to be held still. Unfortunately the detector cannot distinguish which direction the laser is coming from like the normal radar. Luckily it has about a 5 mile range. Found out a lot of cops by us run dual guns. Front and back.

but how can it have a 5 mile range when the detector has to actually SEE the laser beam? can you expand plz?
and whats a dual gun? one that uses radar and laser at the same time?

Dual radar guns. One mounted in back facing out then the one the cop has. The higher end local Leo’s have them along with a couple sheriffs. For non-los laser detection you’re counting on refraction and bouncing. Laser sensor is real sensitive. Can be set off by any laser, even the ones from the gas station.
I only get hit with laser 4-6 times a year on the highway in Michigan. Have picked it up well before every time. They do sell a laser scramble kit for the 360. I don’t get hit enough to justify purchasing it. It’s legal in a lot of states.

I ended up sending the k40 back. Found a max 360c with built in dash cam in stock. The max 360c is my go to right now. Been using them for 4 years. Have 4 of them. Shows the actually radar frequency, how many guns are tracking you. I’ve seen up to 4 at once, and the direction it’s coming from. Plus a bar for front strength and back strength. It’s also filters out all the side radar bands. To get a false hit with this detector is rare. If the same frequency is detected 3 times in the same place per its gps that signal is auto muted. So every 2-3 months you have to unlock a couple because it’s the same cop sitting in the same parking lot.

So I technically don’t use it because I speed everywhere. But I like it for merging and pulling out. I know my exhaust travels, I love acceleration, and we get full power once it hits third. Which means even in the local 35 mph when I pull out, I’m not taking my foot off the floor until she about to shift 4th, and I get the loud blow off of full boost, that’s if the detector deems it acceptable. Highway merge she’s hitting 90 minimum. Thing pulls like a monster on the Highway. 50-100 feels like a cvt. That’s with cold air, tune, and exhaust. I consider it a tool to know my surroundings.

You are correct. LIDAR detection will either be scatter or direct hit from line of sight. It’s just a ticket notification if you are speeding. If you see laser a lot, you need laser jammers like the ALpriority.

I’m surprised they even sell these still. Don’t most departments have laser that’s pretty much undetectable until it’s too late? Sorry haven’t had a detector in more than 20 years..
Most city and counties in the US still use radar. KA band. Many highway patrols claim to use laser. In TN every webpage I see says TN highway patrol uses lazer, webpages also claim my city (Clarksville) uses laser key both use radar anytime I am near them.. One thing that is lifesaving, especially with the uniden long Ranger detectors. Many counties and near police radar detectors run constantly even when they are sitting or moving and not even looking at radar. This causes the signal to very easy to read at long distances. I have avoided many a speed trap with my uniden r3

The problem with a laser scramble kit is that it is useless unless they directly hit your detector. the laser finction that most detectors have is worthless other than tell inform you that they city/country does not use radar

I am retrofitting my Escort from my BMW to the Bronco, even though I drive a lot slower in the Bronco since the Bronco has become my daily driver.

The Escort was direct wired into the bimmer, and I am going to do the same for the Bronco. I would do the wiring into the rear view mirror but I like to have the mute button more easily available to me, and since I have a manual, I want it down by the grab handle to the right of the stick shift.

I am going to use the the Escort direct wire kit and connect to a spare fuse outlet.

https://www.escortradar.com/products/direct_wire_smartcord_blue?variant=1845564440585

It won't be as neat as yours, but my right hand is almost always on the stick shift so less effort to mute a false alarm. I just have to figure the best way to route to the detector from the center console.

LOL this statement is so NOT true. Do your homework.

A good radar detector can detect active radar up to 5 miles away, but the cop needs to be pretty close to you. And fyi they can pick you out of a crowd, and they are very good at hiding lol.

Get an Escort directional Max 360 and you’ll even know when you’ve passed the trap where you never saw the cop. Happens all the time. A dash cam won’t do squat to keep you from getting speeding tickets.

I have them in all my cars and trucks, and they save my bacon all the time. Even with an instant detection attempt pointed at you, you can often slow down fast enough before the cop can get a reading. Unfortunately in that case they’ll claim they’re trained to estimate speed accurately. Laser is a different thing, but they are not used as much because you can beat them in court.

I agree, my radar detector is a totally effective deterrent from a bs ticket, because I have a time stamped GPS log and if I am getting painted by radar or laser, I have the frequency, direction, strength, etc logged by both time and GPS location with my actual GPS speed. It is all the evidence that I need to fight a ticket.

Valentine V1 and JBV1, it will even alert me to aircraft above flying traffic enforcement patterns.

Yes, I have exceeded the speed limit at times, and this helps a lot. I also drive enough miles that statistically, I am at higher risk of getting a BS ticket (nearly 40k miles on my Bronco in 10 months).
