I’d have it towed in then or at least let the dealer make the call. Too much oil can cause all kinds of problems that you don’t want to be responsible for. I definitely would not want to drive it. Where in upstate are you?
Binghamton NY so southern tier

The question you might be thinking about is which fluid did they actually drain out??? The transmission fluid?
Solid point thank you

I started a car after an oil change once and forgot to put the 710 cap back on and oil exploded all over like that.
A gas jockey did this to my 1970, 240 Z.... what a mess.

Do no touch it, do not drain it, do not tow it, do not start it. Call the dealer and tell them you popped the hood and saw this, and then pulled the dipstick and saw that. Have them come pick it up on a rollback and do what they see fit and tell them you are going to want them to cover any leaks or damage that result from this in the future, for maybe some agreed upon mileage.

Does our tranny even have a drain plug? He probably wouldn’t get far without atf so if they did drain something else likely the T-case or front diff which probably would last a day (years if its the front diff and not used much). They would really have to be special to mistake one of those for the oil. Never done it, but how much oil would come out with the filter if the oil wasn’t drained?

If it were me I would've already drained the oil out of it if I had any indication they overfilled it like you do and taken more pictures and video. Then placed a not so nice call to the dealer when they open. Do not drive it.
I wouldn’t do anything to it myself, let the dealer see it as they left it.

It seems they may not have drained the original oil so I'm running twice the amount. Drove only for one day around town.
what does the dipstick show
Twice the amount
Really twice the amount? Halfway up the twist is normal on most 2.7s.
It's a 2.3 but yeah well past the full line that I see
Can you please post a photo of the current oil level on the dipstick?

I doubt you could have driven it for an entire day with 12 quarts in the engine. Maybe just overfilled by a few quarts and it blew a gasket or seal? That’s why a photo would help.

Also, please post a photo or two showing the oil around the crankshaft.

Hence why I said take video and pictures. If they really did put extra in, I'm not letting that dealer ever touch it again.
