Ford Dealer Requiring Resale Right-of-First-Refusal From New Bronco Raptor Buyer

Dealer: Ok. How about MSRP?
Customer: Perfect. That works.
Dealer: Great.
Dealer: Please sign here.

Dealer: You, being a guest here, are being provided with a valuable service. Without us, you would not be able to get to work or shop for groceries.
Dealer: Because we are generous and per Ford's policy, we will encumber your purchase such that upon suspicion that you might intend to resell your fully paid-for vehicle, which we will no longer own, will be subject to market value fees payable to us such that we determine.
Dealer: You wouldn't want to abuse our generosity, would you? How do you plan on getting to work or purchasing groceries without us?
Customer: Oh, ok. That sounds awesome.

So if i buy a dealers raptor for 80k and then decide to sell ….sure the dealer can buy it back……for what i want to sell it for, sayyyyy…….120k. Sure no problem.

Not enforceable. This agreement doesn’t even have a expiration date, a judge would laugh this out of court! I hope they didn’t pay anyone to draft that…..

I am fine with what the dealer is doing for the most part, but would negotiate a time limit to the right of first refusal. Say 1 year maybe. If we could agree on the length of time for the right of first refusal, I would sign and save the $20k. If the guy who posted the info doesn't, he was probably gonna flip it anyways.

Another case of dealer says do what I say, not as I do. Welcome to the new banana republic.

This is the dealer doing this, not Ford Corporate. Big difference.

It quotes a “Ford Motor Company policy”. I wonder if that is legit.. and if not does that void the contract? It does seem like it would be hard to enforce. I’d ask for a 1 year time limit on the contract and since they are giving him just a few days to mull it over I’d ask the dealer for 24 hrs for them to buy it back from the time the buyback offer is made.

I signed a similar contract from Woodhouse Ford when I purchased my Badlands at MSRP. The contract stated that I had to give Woodhouse right to first refusal if I wanted to sell the Bronco in my first year of ownership.

My wife, who was very tired of me buying and selling cars every other month, offered to make that a blood oath contract.

I love my Bronco, so it wasn’t an issue for me to sign.
