not just that but is also kind of hypocritical if that poster is buying a Bronco which has awful mpg. They should join a Prius forum.
Yup! Sounds like he's fighting some internal battles 🤔

Somehow I feel dumber for reading that.
" Kanninen goes on to share that he didn't have to worry about wondering when he might run out of gas. Instead, he had a clear indication at all times of how much battery capacity was remaining." Car's don't have gas gauges?
" Sadly, if you're an EV owner stranded near a bunch of idling gas cars, you're also subject to those same noxious fumes, but that's beside the point here. If all the cars were EVs, that problem would cease to exist." In a Blizzard with 40-50 MPH winds?
I know a lot of folks were out there twice as long as Dan's 14 hours and he failed to say how much he had left on the battery. Inconclusive article.

I reserved a Lightning, not because of gas prices, they were low at the time of reservation

Liked the idea of a full size truck at the entry level price point. I will also keep my current ICE F150 just in case I do not like the Lightning. Hopefully the Lighting will be delivered without the drama. Scheduled for production the week of 5/30.

This thread is very polarizing and entertaining lol. I'll just say, EVs are not for everyone, and that's ok. There are those that do like them and do realize a benefit in their situation, and that is ok too. ICE and EVs have their own pros and cons. EVs are not pointless, but they should also not be mandated by a certain date, like my home state of California is doing. Owning both an EV and an ICE, I know where the EV benefits me. I'll always have an ICE in my stable...and I have no problem saying the same about an EV as well. They both serve me well. Like most all news nowadays, I wouldn't trust any news that is strictly pro or anti EV...or ICE for that matter. Only way to know if an EV works for you, is to try...and if it doesn't, that is perfectly ok. Just keep in mind, if it doesn't work for you, it doesn't mean it could work for someone else. Likewise, if an EV works out for someone, they shouldn't assume it will work for everyone else.

btw...I have no shame in referring to my tesla as a supercharged golf cart...its the most fun golf cart I have ever driven lol

Who cares if its better or worse for environment,,,its just better

What is Quad-Motor Drive?
Four motors deliver instant power and independently adjust torque at each wheel for precise traction control in all conditions. Controlling power at the individual wheel enables torque vectoring, the ability to neutralize oversteer and understeer to keep your vehicle steady and responsive through sharp maneuvers while off-roading and in the snow. Quad-motors offer substantially better torque control than locking differentials while also being instantly adjustable for on-road performance.

I’m similarly fortunate. My company allows me to expense my gas and maintenance/repairs on my primary vehicle… which is now my Bronco. It’s a great perk. That said, my wife’s next vehicle is likely to be an EV.
I'm thinking of giving the company car back when the bronco or jeep come in. They'll pay up to 600 miles per month for personal car but some months I can drive 2k miles so still deciding on what to do.

So, I was lucky to pick up my Bronco 1st Edition at the end of October--very pleased with it.
However, I picked up my Hummer EV1 on Friday and must say that it is a special vehicle. It is a beast that drives like a Bentley with features galore. GM did a great job! According to my onboard systems, I am getting about 350 miles per charge.
Overall, both are great options with an edge to the HEV1.
Enjoy!

I have a 2010 Fusion Hybrid I'm using to hold me over till I get my Bronco-its ok but its tired ..its my Brother in laws old car and it is starting to fall apart with almost 215K miles on it.

If they had a Hybrid Bronco for sale, I would have went with it even if it was just the 2.3L-the powerboost hybrid is more of a power adder then MPG increaser with it built into the A10 transmission.

I'm thankful that it looks like in the summer I'll be just going into work 2x a week with a 26 mile round trip, so the cost of gas won't be as big of deal as it could be.

My wife's next car will be a hybrid, she does a shit ton of driving or maybe a BEV if it is affordable (40K range) since she puts almost 20K miles a year on her car.

I plan on keeping my Bronco a long time and wanted to get a Mustang as a 3rd/weekend car down the road, but I want that to be ICE-so my next DD will be a BEV in about 10-15 years.

Mine has a little more oomf (and a lot more wasted money 🤣) than the ron, but electric + 2 wheels is the supreme fair-weather daily.
damn now you guys got me researching Electric bikes! that could get expensive lol

Not me, I work from home so not a lot of driving. My wife though just got a nice promotion but it means a lot more driving for her to visit different hospitals. She's driving a Explorer platinum right now but is really liking the 23 Toyota Sequoia in a hybrid version. I haven't really researched it much yet to see if its a significant enough mpg increase on mostly highway driving though.

That EV1 looks awesome! Thanks for sharing. I thought they weren't available until 2023, but is that just what the backorder queue is up to now?

Here's a much better article that looks at how EVs perform in the cold in long stretches of "idle": https://www.insidehook.com/article/vehicles/electric-car-12-hours-freezing-cold-test

After taking delivery of my Bronco last September, we also traded in my wife's Subaru for a Mustang Mach-E in January. Our timing was obviously ideal with respect to gas prices, but as most have said on this thread the math of converting to an EV JUST because of gas prices doesn't really work. Here are some thoughts after 2 mos of an EV:
  • Here in SLC, air quality can be some of the worst in the world at times due to the mountains bordering both sides trapping pollution. This was a factor in looking at an EV to hopefully stop contributing to this.
  • Installing the electrical panel and 240v outlet as well as purchasing a ChargePoint dedicated charger (optional since the MME comes with a charger cord) immediately eats up many, many months (>1 year) of gas savings.
  • Love how the MME drives, the acceleration, the BlueCruise on the highway - it makes leaving the Bronco in the garage for errands, etc. much easier. Although when the weather gets better I'm sure I'll be taking the Bronco much, much more with the top down which can't be beat.
  • Excited about the lack of maintenance with the MME, no oil changes, minimal brake usage due to 1 pedal driving, etc.
  • Very happy to have purchased the MME at MSRP (6 mos wait, which felt like nothing compared to the Bronco) and to be eligible for the full tax credit (Ford's credit should start stepping down later this year) and the monthly payment for the MME is about the same as our Subaru was due to high trade-in value, low interest, etc.
The reality is we'll need to be committed to this EV for years to come to make it a worthwhile financial exercise. But so far it's been an easier transition than we had thought. The plan is to trade-in the MME when my Rivian RS1 is scheduled to be delivered in late 2023 (once Rivian backed-off their price increase) which should provide an even higher-level EV experience (quad motor, greater range, greater utility, etc.).

Maybe it's the new math that has me confused but how long will it take for the fuel savings to add up to more than the difference in price between trading one brand new vehicle for another with a small increase in fuel economy?
