As a long time turbo car owner. In the 2.7 I see remarkably clean plumbing for a production vehicle with two turbos and a FMIC (front mounted inter cooler)

Are folks just not used to turbo engine bays?

People just want to complain about something. The engine bay looks fine to me, spark plugs/ coils/belt/accessories don’t seem to be too bad. Which is the most 90% of us would probably want to do to the engine anyways.

Here’s my thing, just like a Jeep if something goes catastrophically wrong with the engine outside of warranty... it’s probably time for a V8 swap anyways.

Not afraid at all. I too have experience with turbo engines and there's loads of ways to run piping/tubing to keep them clean. It just needs a refresh. A makeover. Some afterrmarket love. :)

Yeah the engine bay is no worse than any vehicle mass produced in the last 40 years.

If you want to frighten yourself google a smog choked engine from the mid 70s. There were dozens of hoses running everywhere for no apparent reason.

This is of course before there were computers to manage boost, mixture, ignition advance, valve lift, valve timing. It was a nightmare.

Ha. ha. I just looked at the post above. No need to google. There it is.

When they put engine covers on vehicles everyone complained about it because it was fake.

Now ford doesn't do it and everyones like omg my eyes! Please cover up your shame! My children might see that!

FWIW the Jeeps with the engine covers just look a little less busy. Most owners are just opening the hood to clean the thing and put bug juice in the reservoir.

OP my 2009 Forster XT with an engine cover looked worlds better than my 2004 WRX did IMO.

There's a decent chance that they come with engine covers upon delivery, the 2.3L engine had the exact same standoffs for an engine cover that my Focus RS 2.3L has. That'd clean things up a bit aesthetically. Tons of room under the hood for both engines compared a turbo compact/hatch, will be really easy to customize and modify.

I don't know. I've always done the majority of my own work. Under the hoses, wires and sensors it's all just mechanical stuff that comes apart like the old days. A few more things to mark and keep track of during tear down.

OH MY GOD.

THANK YOU.

I think for a certain group of people, there is a revisionist history in their mind about how an engine is "supposed" to look.

What they think they remember:

Reality:

Reminds me of my buddies old FJ 60. So many stupid vaccuum lines and other crap. The 2.7 may not be the simplest thing ever but all that stuff at least has a purpose.
