It’s not a simple solution. Design time, packaging solutions, scheduling changes etc all play into this.

With these types of projects often the best, quickest solution is to fix what’s wrong with your original plan when you’re this far down the pipeline.

Bronco isn’t being built by nine dudes in a pole barn. Changes like that take way more time and effort than some folks seem to realize.

I want one of those, but where are you going to mount the rear camera?
You can do either inside or outside. I just ordered it. When I get my bronco I will try different locations to see what works the best.

Option presented, costs Ford $

Alternative option, fill all the orders you can, then if you have no more reservations for soft tops make units with soft tops and ship to dealers to sell = making $.

Wonder which one Ford would choose?

Just wondering how long before they run out of soft tops?
And then they find out all those who switched to the covid soft tops will be pushed back because of the soft top shortage.

RIDICULOUS!

The LAST things Ford wants to do are:

1) Spend time and money wiring soft top vehicles to accommodate hard tops
2) Worry about customers AFTER their vehicle has shipped
3) Ship a bunch of hradtops later and sell for a discount

REALITY

a) Enough people will change their orders (softtops, 2.3, etc) to keep full production going
b) Customer orders (obligations) will continue to get filled
c) People that want hardtops, Squatch, 2.7L, etc will wait a little longer
d) Entitled folks will piss & moan until their Broncos arrive
I agree for the most part, but would take issue with characterizing people that aren’t happy with Ford reneging on key aspects of the vehicle they agreed to buy as “entitled”.

Entitlement to me is a characterization applied to people that are wanting something for nothing, or feel they deserve more than what is agreed upon or practical. In my opinion, the people complaining have legitimate arguments, considering they agreed to buy a Bronco, and in many cases pay over $60k for that vehicle. Ford has failed miserably to deliver on a number of preorder agreed to features and options and have placed the onus of resolution on customers to compromise and settle for less than what was agreed to.

Entitled is a mischaracterization and lends itself to a negative connotation of a group of people that just want what they ordered ,or to be presented with a satisfactory compromise. Now their gripes may be akin to pissing in the wind and an exercise in futility, but not entitlement.

I would gladly add a Soft-Top now if I could get my Bronco sooner. Seeing I'm switching to order both I would like a discount later when my hardtop comes in! Let's pre-wire the soft-tops for wiper and washer.
Better Solution: 1. Just wait and get what you ordered. or; 2. You are charged for your hard top, but your Bronco is delivered from the Factory with a soft top at NO charge. Then when the hard top is available it is shipped (free of charge) to your local Dealer for install, also at no charge. IMO this is the only acceptable alternative (instead of just waiting). We as a customer should not have to pay shipping or pay for a temporary top we do not really want. I DO NOT want a soft top, not where I live and not how I intend to use my Bronco. AND A WARNING TO FORD; if you drop the hard top and only offer a soft top....then I will cancel my order. Me...........I am waiting for the MIC.

do we really know if the plant is building below capacity because there are no soft top orders left to fill?

I kind of doubt it.
I have a BB soft top and no build date yet.

DISAGREE

Ford hasn't reneged on anything. Everyone will get exactly what they want AND Ford is also guaranteeing pricing for folks that get pushed into MY22. That's a big deal considering the price of everything is going up. Unfortunately, events out of Ford's control (hardtops, Covid, etc) have meant that early production has less flexibility than planned or expected. AND,,,

Entitlement is strong on this forum. $100 deposit for a custom vehicle is next to nothing and people saying they've been screwed by Ford, etc, etc is nonsense. Ford can only build so many Broncos with hardtops, big engine, Squatch, etc per month. That is a simple, unalterable fact. So, people complaining that a Big Bend 2.3 softtop reserved in August is being built before their day 1 reservation wildtrak is bullsh_t. Also, Ford never guaranteed anyone a vehicle by a certain date. Read the disclaimers from July 13, 2020. Yet, people feel Ford is screwing them. I agree entitlement has a negative connotation!

NO ONE IS being told they must compromise on anything (ex FEs not getting MOD). All any customer has to do is wait a bit longer for their custom vehicle. Show me where anyone HAS TO settle for less? Ford was also nice enough to lower the price of WT by about $1200 to compensate for getting MIC tops.

Anyone who wants out can get their $100 deposit back ANY time. But why would they? $100 buck is meaningless and they want their Bronco, so pissing (an moaning) into the wind is what they'll do.

Oh, an other thread about this ;-)

But yes, I'd be happy to pay for the 'hard top ready' option to get this stuff wired and plumbed up, then change my order to soft top (I will keep those $1k in Ford points though, that I was promised when I changed from dual top to MIC only, OK Ford? You're making me work here, and I don't work for cheap.... )
Or I'd be just as happy to add dual top back in, get delivery with a soft top, and get that hard top when ever it's available in '22.
You'd think that by now there's enough $ loss on the line that these couple tens of thousands for some wires and plugs and a hose and a different switch on the stalk by the steering wheel can't really be that expensive (and as I said, I'd be happy to pay a reasonable price for that too, like at cost?).
Top level bean counters are not fun people, I've dealt with them before..... Maybe someone in marketing can come over with a big hammer or something and set them straight.. :-D

"Ford announces incentive to speed up Bronco production. Order a dual top now, get your Bronco with the soft top delivered this year and the hard top will be shipped and installed for free once it is available in 2022.
Get xxx Ford Pass points if you change your order by xx.xx.xxxx."

But hey, that's just how I'd do this, and what do I know ;-p

All I know, my Bronco will be here when it gets here, equipped as I want it. And while I don't like to, I can wait. A while longer.
I agree and this is the real kicker: Ford is ALREADY planning on providing the “wires and plugs and hose and switch” to these vehicles we have pre-ordered with hard tops. It shouldn’t cost them any more money or supplies to do what they are already planning to do. We are simply asking them to NOT TAKE IT AWAY if we switch to a soft-top. AND, we are asking for the OPPORTUNITY to switch to a soft-top currently not available to FE. This would significantly reduce webasto requirements, help relieve the bottle-neck, and get more people Broncos in 2021.

You falsely assume there is some infinite supply of soft tops. They scheduled builds based off initial orders, I promise they didn’t make an extra 10K soft tops just to sit in a warehouse.

Well, I stand corrected then......everything is going splendidly and anyone that doesn’t agree is an entitled whiner. Got it. Even those that paid $2,000 or more in a non-refundable deposit.....not just a $100. I know.....those people are entitled morons.

I am certain Ford will be enthralled to hear they have at least one customer that’s pleased as punch. Perhaps, you could write them and Webasto a return letter to endorse their stellar rollout....might I suggest posting it on the BroncoNation site as I’m sure it will be well received in that echo chamber of fanboys and the easily pleased.
