I genuinely like the idea of an EV off-roader, especially due to the prospects of 'fueling' it with anything that can produce enough electricity.

However, I don't like the idea of a Volkswagen EV off-roader. Gives me "Lady Gaga is the executive director at Polaroid" vibes. I like some of the Volkswagen cars, but what the **** do they know about off-roaders?

I'm interested in seeing the development of this. This website has a forum that was created to obtain feedback from enthusiasts and many appear to be wanting this future Scout true to its roots. I'm concerned with the turnaround time from plan to development but do expect the current lineup of Wrangler and Bronco to be a reference. Hope it will be a true offroader as they claim with classic design but modern technology. As a current 800 owner, I'm rooting for this design but expect it to be closer to the Scout II based on initial press release images/renders.

Something concerns me with batteries and electronics with deep water crossings. Also weight in general and the beating an off roader can be subject too. Like it or not they are shoving them down our throat.

I think there is some potential here. It looks like they're hiring design engineers in Virginia, so it will be domestically designed. Rivian turned out a seemingly off road capable truck without a long pedigree of off roaders, I'm sure VW could do it as well if they keep a clear vision in mind and try not to make a lot of compromises.

Maybe they'll put in a slanted battery pack in the scout. That will lure them in to buy

How far away are they from offering reservations? I’m definitely not ready to go electric yet, but by the time these things are a reality, who knows?
its gonna take years for me to trust a vehicle reservation system again.

Very interesting that the only links are:

01. CAREERS
02. PRESS
03. FORUMS

Specifically "Forums". Seems odd (or, rather, ironic) that they're launching with a message board, very similar to Bronco.

This is where I'm at too. I'm excited to see if they can pull it off for a mass market price.

The R1T gets good reviews but at ~70k that's targeting a very small niche of the market. With the development costs they're going to incur, I know we'll never see Base Bronco pricing out of a Scout, but they could compete with higher end Bronco/Wrangler trims.

If it flops we should be thankful that it will give Ford and Stellantis a roadmap on what not to do for their brands. Similarly, I hope VW has already learned from our reservation nightmare 🤡
