Let's see, there was around 3x more 2.7 builds ordered on 6g than 2.3 builds.
So far we have 10 engine failures for the 2.7, and 3 for the 2.3...
🤔
Do you have the link to the blown 2.3? I don’t recall seeing an actually blown 2.3 problem on the forum?

Using this anecdotal data, I ran another chi test.
Ford Bronco Another blown 2.7 engine on a Bronco 1639134699912

A chi-square test of independence showed that there was no significant difference between the failure rate reported on B6G between the 2.7 and the 2.3 engines (2.7 or 2.3), X2 (1, N = 10) = 0.1016 , p > .749946.

Even with made up data from information on a message board, we are seeing that it is less and less significant. The p value needs to be at least .05 for these results to be significant, and it is getting farther and farther from .05. Now if we get some actual numbers, I suspect the p value will be closer to 1 than it is with my unreliable and completely made up data set.

In other words, Dear B6G, please stop saying this is significant because it clearly is not.

Unfortunately we can't just ask. Because people who are not having issues and have received their 2.7 are probably not visiting the forum very often.

I would love to see an accurate poll of every member who has received a 2.7 and has had zero issues versus some sort of mechanical failure.

99.9% of them. Just maybe don't be paranoid about it?

This math (Chi-square analysis) is flawed on many levels, however the most glaring fault is treating the random 2.7 failures known as complete population data and additionally assuming that it is equivalent to the reported 2.3 failures (also treated as population data) which could be confounded by so many other variables that it's ridiculous.

That's a gross misuse of the Chi-square test.

Want to make it at least somewhat meaningful, survey all B6G members and use that for your Chi-Square analysis... At least then you can say that used population data and that it would be valid for B6G. Another way would be to take a truly random sample of owners and then run the data... Problem is that you will be under-powered unless there are many more failures.

Ya, I was late to the party and fair enough, you said as much a post before the one I read. LOL.

Not a lot, but a few possibly limited to a bad batch of valves.
You weren't running in eco mode, were you?

Just curious as to what GOAT mode you were running when it failed.

For those that have suffered the blown 2.7L, I am sorry. I sincerely hope mine is out of the woods (8/31/2021 build date) and with 7,700 miles on it at this point.

The 2.7L is a fine engine, most of the bashing is coming from people with 2.3L buyers remorse.

Mostly, but the failures still intrigue me. Especially when they are occurring so early in the ownership of the vehicle.

I am convinced that there is something that is a consistent factor in the few documented that have blown up. All appear to have died when not being flogged.

A bad batch of valves is still a potential explanation. However running excessively lean appears plausible now too, given the visual evidence that looks like pre-ignition/detonation, along with the fact that a failure in the dual injection system could create the circumstances for this to occur under cruise conditions.
