I have an OBX sas with 2.7. Ive been averaging 15.3 MPG city driving (North Jersey, very congested) on either Eco or Normal - no difference. On highway I was just a hair under 17 on a long ride along the NY Thruway.

Do you feel the difference while driving? Does one engine outshine the other?
Yes. 100 percent. The 2.3 is adequate. The 2.7 is fun and surprisingly quick.

I can't figure it out either lol. I added steps as well so that can't be it. Only thing I can figure, and it's still a stretch, but I babied the hell out of the thing during the break in period.
oh me too, drove like a granny, so i can't imagine thats it either. perhaps its just the variables that come along with mass production, different rates of break in, because other than that i have no idea what else it could be

The standard you are in 2wd at all times unless you lock it in. The advanced track you have more mechanical / driveline drag, resistance. Less rolling or driveline resistance equals better mpg. Now, when we order our next bronco we are going to go with advanced track.
99.9% sure this isn't true

The 2.7 and 2.3 get essentially the same mpg.

Some trims (not OBX) get BETTER mpg with the 2.7
It’s weight and brick-aero driving consumption. I bought a Honda Insight as a second car to rent out and pilot on longer trips. It’s a nice variety of driving feels.

it confuses me so much how significantly different mpg can be on the same model vehicle. 2.7 WT and averaging 15.7. Granted I added side steps, but wouldn't imagine that would make that significant of a difference. I've even calmed down the lead foot i used to have in my focus and still doesn't seem to make much of a difference.
Do you live in an area where you are driving over 65mph often?

My commute is mostly at steady state 50mph and that's about ideal for mpg.

Hey Everyone, I wanted to get some opinions from those of you that have your broncos and are daily driving them. I have a 4 door OBX 2.7 non squatch on order and have been wondering if I made the right engine choice. It will be driving city and hwy miles pretty evenly split. My husband wants the 2.7 (and im always game for the bigger engine with more power) but how bad will my MPG be compared to the 2.3? Is there a big enough difference for me to even be putting thought into this? Does driving the 2.7 vs the 2.3 justify the lesser MPG in smiles?? Lol I know this isnt a vehicle for good fuel economy, but given we have the choice, I feel its worth asking.
My girl has been daily driving our OBX 2.7 4-door around Los Angeles of all cities and she just hit 20MPG. She keeps it on ECO mode for the daily commute. It gets better mileage than my Mustang by like 5 or 6. Filling up from the last quarter of a tank mark costs us around $85 - $90 a week at the current $5+ per gallon mark in our area.

I have 1000 miles on my SAS Badlands, 2.7L. 15.4 MPG. Figure out how much you drive and the do the math on how much it will cost you to own it. Personally I don’t worry about MPG with this truck. The difference of 1 or 2 MPGs is only a few hundred bucks a year for me.

E.g
OBX 2.3L MPG is 21
SAS 2.7L MPG is 17

You’ll use an additional 100 Gallons per 10,000 miles driven a year. That’s around $400 a year or if you are in CA around $500.

that is probably it. 15 minutes of highway driving daily, 70+ mph

I ordered my wife one with the 2.7 but her commute is about 10 miles two days a week.

How much are you driving on a weekly/monthly basis would be more relevant to the question.

I never get how a possible ~$600 extra in fuel a year would be a significant concern for someone spending $50,000 on a vehicle....

That's 10,000 miles a year, $4/gallon, and 15mpg vs 20mpg, so likely a pretty high estimate of the yearly cost difference....

But overall, I'm very impressed with the 2.7L Ecoboost. I've had a 3.5L Ecoboost for years in my F150 and have loved it, looks like the 2.7L is also going to be great. Though IMHO, Sport mode is a must.
