There's a dark mode and I remember seeing in some videos is that there is a button that easily turns off the screen.
Yup. There’s a dark mode that turns on automatically when it’s dark or you can set it manually. AND I’m pretty sure there’s also a relaxation mode which turn off the screen and simply show the time.

With the roof is off and there’s a bad glare on the screen

I’m thinking bigger is better :)

I'm getting it, no question- like buying this rig in the first place, it's all an indulgence.

It looks like the nav is included with Mid package. To add to the confusion, here is what is shown when clicking the info icon under radio type section:

:EDIT:

I just noticed Navigation vs Built-In Navigation. $695 for built-in? Seems like it is for the 12" upgrade too.
Connected vs Connected Built-In is kind of a confusing distinction.

From what I can tell, along with the turn-by-turn navigation you get map updates and real time traffic.

Connected means you get all that as long as you’re paying a monthly fee, as all of that functionality is provided in real time through a cellular connection. Cancel your subscription and you lose all of it, including turn by turn.

Built-In means you pay for that subscription upfront for 3 years... but when it runs out, if you don’t renew you only lose the real time traffic stuff... you still keep the turn by turn.

Think of it like Connected is a cell phone with a navigation app, and built-in is like an old fashioned GPS nav unit.

OK, I was a BD, no big screen needed order, then I remembered how many times I have crested a gully or ravine, or topped a hill and had no idea what was in front of and below the front bumper, even would stop, get out and look, this after almost dropping the front end into a 8' deep hole. So I have bitten the bullet and moved up to the BL w/high!!, what the hell, it's only money. No SAS because I don't need those huge tires, I have had 33's and they are perfect for what I do, as well as tow better.

I wouldn't mind the eight inch screen if it had the cameras.

The 12" screen didn't take away any real estate that you would think needed to be occupied by anything else. I think the upright seating position helps it stay put as your peripheral vision's side-piece.

I think it looks ridiculous in the small cabin of the Bronco.
I agree with this 100%. I’ve had two Teslas. My current daily is a Model 3 Performance with a 15” screen. It’s not obtrusive to me, even at night, but the interior is designed for that screen and literally everything is controlled off the screen. I sat in the Bronco with high package and thought it just looked dumb. I much prefer the 8” screen.

You still have time to Squatch it. You thought eight was enough and now you're at 12. You thought 33 was enough...

The question is - later down the road will the 12" get some software updates that make it objectively better?

For me it comes down to this.
Do I need it? No
Do I want it? Yes
Do I want to pay extra for it? No
You said it ..Brother.....
This is a Motto That we go by. It keeps our finances in check.

Wonder if there is a difference with 8" vs 12" ( not talking size or resolution) as far as what apps it has or functionality?

Yes. You can't get the 360° trail cams on the 8". So there's at least that functional difference.
