With a purchase of this size, I doubt any dealer would take a credit card without charging you a fairly sizeable fee to pay for their processing fee. Probably around 3%. They may eat the fee on a deposit, but not gonna do it on a $50k transaction.
Most dealers has a limit on how much can be paid with a credit card. My Ford dealer took 10k while my Mazda dealer took 5k. They do not assess any fees for credit card transactions.

Most dealers will also accept personal checks.

My dealer took a check. Writing a bad check over $10K is a federal felony so they’re actually more trusting of large checks than small ones. But even if your dealer is not the trusting type - negotiate the deal - get a bottom line - then go get a cashier’s check.

I just wrote my dealer a personal check for $34k. No credit check, and it was 8 pm at night.

Never even saw the finance guy. Dealership simply assumed I was paying for it outright.

On a "lot vehicle" you never say you are paying cash until you have a negotiated price. For Bronco, you should have the price in writing on your DORA. So the only real question is how much the government gets, and how much is the BS "Doc Fee".

A lot of times they might ask to do a "one line" credit check to take a personal check, but my dealer told me one guy got mad, said he'd be back the next day, and paid for his F-150 with litteral cash. Took them 3 hours to count.

I’ve got a related question. My in-laws want to contribute some to my purchase but they want to pay it directly to the dealer. Any idea if this is possible or would they then have to be on the title as an owner?
They can write a check payable to the dealer. The finance guy should be able to tell you exactly how to make it out

Also, I assume you are not trading in a vehicle but will get a ride down to the dealership. If they know you are paying cash they will low-ball you even harder on your trade.

I drove my wife's old Expedition while waiting the 18 months for Ford to build my Bronco. Once mine was actually shipped, I sold it on Facebook Marketplace for $4900. Trade in would have been about $1800.

In other news, Expeditions lose value like you wouldn't believe, always buy used.

I wrote a personal check for mine last week. They scanned the check and handed it back to me. Your way seems like a long day.

My experience was a bit different. There is a limit to the amount you can charge but in my case there was no fee. I put down as much as I could on my credit card (to get the points) and the limit was $3k on the credit card no fee. So I did $3k on my credit card and the rest from my debit card for my down payment. If you are spending the money, regardless, you might as well get points from it.

I just texted the saleslady and she sent me a pic of the price. I stopped by the bank on the way to pick it up and had a check cut for that amount.

The finance lady was pretty cool and went through all the extra add-on stuff pretty quickly when I said I had a check for the exact amount of the vehicle.

Just stick to your guns and don't add anything, just politely decline EVERYTHING.
When they try pitching the warranty, know that you can get it from Granger for the lowest price. I would advise you get the Ford esp quote from the granger website so you at least know what the lowest cost is. That way you know how much they are uncharging and can decline. If you want the warranty that is. https://grangerfordextendedwarranty.com/

Thanks! That’s very helpful. I have no clue what my in-laws are hoping to contribute but I’m extremely grateful. I guess the next thing I’ll need to learn is if there’s a limit.
There is no limit to how much someone else pays or how much the lean holder pays (for that matter). The dealer dosnt care where the money is coming from, as long as it's going to them. If they wanted to put down $30k (via cash or check or whatever) they can. You would be responsible for the remaining balance as the finance. If they wanted to pay it all off, they can also.

Write the dealer a check from your account. And drive home.

My dealer allowed up to 5k on a credit card with no fee. Used a personal check for the rest.
