A pillar dent

While I’m still figuring out how this has happened, I’m wondering if anyone knows if PDR can fix it? I have already went to one shop and they said it is impossible since they can’t access it from the back.
I’m also wondering if I take it to ford authorized body shop for replacement, they would need to cut from the structure body and weld it back, I imagine it would cost a lot and might not be worth it. I haven’t filed an insurance claim but I might do it if PDR won’t fix it.

That’s kind of impressive.

I’d imagine it’s either bondo or a chop.

A good body shop can make easy work of that surprisingly. You just have to look.

It looks severe for PDR repair, but get another estimate. They may be able to drill access holes behind the weatherstrip.

A body shop repair is the more likely method. They can pull most of the dent out (stud welder), apply filler and repaint.

Yeah, that's no sweat for a body shop. You really don't want to cut that out, as that's part of the window seal. Better to just fix the dents.
I'm shocked you don't know how that happened. You must have had a fun night.

Someone should be able to weld to the outside and use a puller, then smooth it out.

I guess this is why limb riser wires exist!

PDR can be done without access to the rear of the panel. Maybe it’s the sharpness of the crease without rear access that’s the issue?

Thanks for feedback everyone. I managed to find a shop that was able to fix it PDR nicely. There are still some marks but overall it is much better.

That pillar took a good smack to get dented like that - any tornadoes / straight line wind storms in your area recently?

Not at all. I’m still trying to figure out how it happened. Managed to narrow it down to two places but unfortunately there are no cameras.

Someone very good with PDR can do amazing things. I have had some tough areas done although sometimes they do need to drill a small access hole, which they plug after. I never had any problems and much prefer that than live with an unsightly dent.

I know the feeling though. On a <1 year old vehicle it makes you cringe, on a paid off truck it's a beauty mark!
