All the upgrades and extra stuff is very popular, and lucrative for the car manufacturer. I'm just glad looks like Ford came through with a relatively low cost base option, for guys like me who don't do expensive vehicles. I'll only buy if I can stay relatively close to 30k.
Absolutely. We are incredibly fortunate Ford is offering a Base with a long list of standard features (push button start, Apple CarPlay, Cruise, PW, PL, etc.) at a price to value ratio way better than any other trim.

BB is $4.8k more for $2k-$3k more content.

Guarantee that Base prices will increase at a higher rate over the next two years to eliminate that value gap.

Tbh a base level 4 door with hardtop will start at something like $36k. IMO this is not a cheap entry level price relative to other SUVs in the market. What’s next 40k for a base 4 door with hardtop?

Base with 33’s is where I’m headed. I like steel wheels and 16” tires are cheaper. I hope there are aftermarket lockers on the market for not too much money
ARB offers an air locker for the Ranger, $999. Bronco models are sure to follow.

With a 10-speed auto, steeper rear gears may not be a necessity except for a better crawl ratio. I doubt street performance would be much different..... there's likely to be a near perfect gear for any speed.

I'm wanting a 2.7/auto which will drive the cost of any model up a few $k. Wondering if it will cost more in the Base vs the higher models. The x-plan also gives a larger discount for the up scale models vs the Base. Waiting for the pricing to come out before making a final decision.

Ideally, I'd like to add a rear locker, bigger wheels/tires, steeper gears, steel bumper and privacy glass to my base. Hoping they'll be avail direct from Ford, but there will be aftermarket alternatives.

I didn’t specify, but I was referring to the two door. That is the one they wanted to get under $30k.

I agree that base 4 dr isn’t quite as attractive from a pricing standpoint but it does have auto transmission standard and is price competitive with Wrangler.

No Bronco is cheap — you can thank the huge price increases Jeep has rolled onto Wranglers over the past several years. They are pricing to demand in a hot market (Wrangler market). From a business standpoint Jeep should probably have done that much sooner than they did. Without those increases all Broncos would cost less.

Given the market/competition Base prices are very good.

Edit: Autotrader shows 2015 Base Wrangler as $23K sticker vs 2020 Base at $28.3K. Huge increase of $5.3K in 5 years. Wranglers are clearly hugely profitable for FCA.

That 1K only gets the locker, then you need the compressor, manifold, install kit, gears, etc. Definitely need to put pencil to paper to make sure you are comparing the full in cost compared to a factory option (like BB with optional read locker or BaseSquatch).

Agree, comparative to a wrangler probably correct. But raise the price much more and I will be saying it’s approaching mid size luxery suv pricing for a base model 4x4, is it worth it

I am on a similar boat, but. Not sure how those narrow 16 inc wheels will look with 33s or of the offset will even allow 33s to fit
From what I’m seeing base wheels are 7” wide, of course almost all 33”s require 7.5” rims, so new steelies are in order, might as well go 8-8.5 if your changing them.

yep and you’re looking at either going aftermarket wheels or getting a badlands if you want 8+ wide. So might as well stick to base if wheels are person’s reason to upgrade to BB

I don’t think stigma that goes with the moniker “base” is relevant on the Bronco. There is nothing basic about its amenities. The price isn’t basic but I think the content supports the price at a “base” level.

imo if I’m stuck with a 4 cylinder I have no interest in paying over $30k to begin with, but as far as the amenities I think it’s reasonable.
I would like to see at least a posi instead of an open axle if they are serious about “locking out” lockers from the base trim (sans Sasquatch option). But otherwise the vehicle seems reasonable.

I agree, you have to really value either: 1) off road capability 2) convertible (unique in SUVs) or 3) style/image; to buy a Bronco or Wrangler.

They are poor values compared to other choices on most other metrics such as refinement/equipment, particularly given the incentives on many other models. I don’t think Bronco will have meaningful incentives for years, unless the combo production of Wrangler/Bronco overwhelms the market demand of this niche.

Personally I see significantly more value in a body on frame SUV than I do the many crossovers Ford sells. 15 years from now there will still be plenty of buyers for a used 2021 Bronco and they will pay a premium. 15 years from now a 2021 Explorer is an outdated piece of technology that has about as much desirability as the minivans its platform is based on.

Unless it’s a V8 sports car I have no interest in ever buying a unibody based vehicle for any purpose.

Agree. Going with a base 2dr at 30K (or closer to 35 with 2..7/auto) won't get you anywhere near what putting 35K into a FWD crossover gets you, in terms of tech, gadgets, amenities etc. BUT, you get a true framed out *actual SUV* that will still be useful and desirable long after that Mazda CX-5 or Honda CR-V has been discarded for being "outdated."

Wranglers prove your point to an extent - but it’s a function of demand - not that body on frame is so much more robust than unibodies (for their intended uses). Bronco has most of the electronics/computers of an Explorer and will be just as subject to parts availability of such.

Wrangler/Bronco combined production and/or overall vehicle trends may change that higher resale (or not).

Regardless you’re unlikely to make up a several thousand front end differential on resale value over a 15 year hold period if you appropriately time value the $’s.

Of course almost no one is buying for resale value as a primary factor - secondary consideration, sure makes sense.

Fully agree, frankly that tech and gadgets are outdated the second they leave the lot and then your just left with a pricier minivan; though honestly I give the cool points to the minivan - at least it’s not pretending to be something it clearly isn’t.

I have no Interest in ever buying a unibody crossover for any reason whatsoever. Total waste of money.

Ah that may be it... cuz the mid package states...

"Rear View Camera with Backup Assist Grid Lines"

Very misleading or maybe just inaccurate like several things on those spec sheet.
Has anyone confirmed, basic rear camera standard even at base? I thought it was a fed requirement now too... doesn't talk about rear camera at all until you get to mid package
