The computer that controls the engine will detect the lower grade of gas and de-tune the engine in order to avoid any knocking.
So it’s constantly measuring the octane level in the tank and adjusting accordingly, even if you have a blend of octane levels in there?

I intend on getting the Ford tune, so premium it will have to be! The tune should mate nicely with a new set of headers and exhaust...

It was an eccentric characterization of what you have said in the past, actually. (y)

And you know that's where I was going with it! HA HA HA!!!!
Of course I knew, you’re more dramatic than a 12 year old teenage girl.

Why use premium on a road trip? You're just going to be steady state cruising 90% of the time, unless you do things differently than most...
well, I'd be going up to Tahoe area, so lots of uphill, the extra hp and torque might come in handy since the rig will be full with 4 people and gear and a dog. Just a guess, never had a car that has different power output depending on the gas, my 19 year old Taco doesn't seem to care one way or an other.

My boss convinced me years ago to put only 91 Octane in our fleet vehicles, and I noticed the difference. Not HP neccessarily but certainly in mileage and extended preventative maintenance intervals. It makes a huge difference long term, and my wife and I use Premium exclusively. We fill at Shell in town with V-Power Nitro Premium 91 Octane; and if I swing by a Petro Canada station, I will grab a tank of Ultra 94.
Avoid ethanol’s like the Plague. Seriously. That crap is garbage. Informative video on why this is a fact here (from Jay Leno’s Garage)

Probably 87. I'll try 91 and see if the power difference is noticeable enough to be worth it, but I'm guessing I won't mind the power level on 87.

I’m already accustomed to premium for the current dd, so I likely won’t change.

Whatever you get, make sure it’s Top Tier gasoline brand.

the premium octane gas from top tier gasoline brands has the most cleaning detergents.
For example, Shell (V-Power) puts in 7 times more than required so, you may not need the higher octane but, the detergent would be worth it if you plan on keeping your Bronco as long as possible.

This 👆 every time. I will only put Top Tier gas in my Bronco (regardless of octane level). Make sure you look for the logo on the pump.
