I have a 2001 XJ and a new 2dr OBX. Lots of things to like on both rigs. The XJ is simple, goes anywhere, super reliable (168k miles), and just old school basic. My new Bronco is a beast, full of tech, but doesn’t feel like it has enough storage room, and the folding rear seats don’t fold flat, so where do I put my dog?
Sadly, putting the XJ up for sale. Got a 77 Bronco we’re restoring now so she has to go. Gonna miss her!

What a clean example. I would be all over this.

This '01 is still my daily driver, a 2dr BaseSquatch is on order.
It's been a great vehicle since I bought it in 2010 with a broken piston. I rebuilt it with a 4.6 liter stroker crank and mild Crower cam.
The Bronco is huge compared to the XJ, it's closer size wise to the cab of my '91 F-150. Sitting in the Bronco, it feels like the F-150, but with a narrower interior. Seat height and view across the hood is comparable to the F-150.
29"'s on the XJ with 2 inch lift. 32's on the Nite.

Great size comparisons here! Beauty of a f150 you’ve got, great trucks.

Blown away by the responses on here and glad to see I’m not the only one a bit worried I’ll miss some of the simplicity and fold flat seats of the XJ, let alone the ease of parallel parking in the city.

Not a Jeep guy by any means but my XJ has been easy to work on and relatively reliable over the last 7 years as both an around town work rig (I’m a contractor) and a family weekender that won’t get stuck in the snow. Still unsure if we’ll keep it once the Bronco arrives. Like others have mentioned we’ve put a lot into it but it’s rarely let us down outside of the pesky crank position sensors.

Biggest fear with the 2dr Bronco right now is losing storage space and having trouble getting my Dog in the backseat but we couldn’t live with the size of the 4dr (let alone the looks haha).

Oh yes the old CPS issue. So fun to change, but you can usually get them going by unplugging / re-plugging them once or twice to limp home. Always keep a spare on hand & an E10 socket ;)

Any one else coming from an XJ to the Bronco?
Also drive a 2011 F150, joke the Bronco will be a blend of the two.
I've been driving a '96 XJ daily to work for 19 years now. It's oily, but still running like a top at 248K. I noticed last night that my front passenger side shock lower pedestal rotted out and I've been driving with that shock dangling at full extension. Guess I'll be buying a $75 Dorman piece to fix it. Lol!

My other ride is an '05 F-150 FX4 stepside with 121K on the clock.

I've been lucky to not have a CPS issue in my 7 years of XJ ownership lol

I did really mess up and tear the wires out of my factory one when doing my 5spd manual swap. Put in a new Mopar cps, hoping the actual Chrysler part will be better quality, no issues yet. Read that using the cheap non Mopar part is a no no. 2000 miles since the swap and no issues yet 🤞🏽

Absolutely, my understanding as well. First one I replaced with something generic and couple years later it bit the dust. They seem to fail with heat soak and will leave you stranded forsure!

Mostly internet legend since Mopar has changed to its 100th Chinese vendor for the part since 1995.

Don't forget that the 4.0 6 banger rear engine seal leaked so much that any driving looked like the Exxon Valdez disaster going down the road. Reliable, yes, add 1 - 2 quarts of oil every time you fill up!
I had the same issue with the rear seal. I had a good mechanic friend that worked on cars all the time. I paid him to replace it. One month later it was leaking again. There must have been some type of design flaw there.

I’ve had a couple XJ’s a ‘87 amc version was my first lifted and drove the heck out of it. It sure didn’t ride nearly as smooth as the bronco.

A few of my faves over the years. Bought with 80k and driven hard. No lift just some steelies, a good roof rack and many adventures!

Since posting had a fuel line fail on my commute and dumped a half tank of gas on the road. Ah the joys of an old Jeep.

Hoping we don’t run into any of the Bronco issues I’ve been following here…

I've had a few XJ's, and MJ's, and now have a 2dr Badlands. I went with the Bronco because I was ready for a more modern and comfortable daily driver. The Bronco will never be as capable off road as the XJ's, but that isn't why I bought it. I love the Bronco. Still trying to decide whether to sell the 2001 XJ, yellow with 2" lift. All the other XJ's are gone. The XJ on 30's does have much better ground clearance than the Bronco on 33's.

Here's some pics of most of the XJ's I've owned. Two XJ's and one MJ are race cars.

If the 6G hadn’t come out I don’t think I’d be looking to replace my XJ.

But I have some grandkids coming up and wouldn’t mind some more room and the safety features. Plus I admit to some nostalgia for the good ol’ days when I cut my teeth on an early Bronco.
