I had a 2009 F-150 and now a 2017. I have 100% confidence in Ford trucks and it's gradually spilling over to the Bronco.

When I was in the Border Patrol in the late 90's, we had 2 and 4 door Chevy Tahoe's, Dodge Durango's and Ford Expeditions. I was stationed in a desert sector, so off-roading was a daily occurrence. There were Sand Dunes, Washes, mountains and brutal driving conditions littered with Desert Iron wood stumps that would destroy anything that hit them.

The Durango was basically forbidden to go off road because it just got stuck immediately. It looked cool but was a total piece of total junk.

The Tahoe's did well off road once you dropped the tire pressure to about 12-14 PSI but it always seemed like I was taking them to the garage for repairs. (the 2 doors were much better off road but mechanically just as bad)….Plus the A/C in them was horrendous and they ended up with a lot of stress cracks on the frame.

The Expeditions were great off road once you dropped the PSI. The A/C was always ICE cold which was huge and I don't remember taking them to the garage for repairs as often at the Tahoe's. I was always happy to get one of the Expeditions.

I know that was a long while ago but my memory serves me well and we were serious off-roaders by the nature of the terrain we worked in. I would absolutely not hesitate to get a Ford 4x4, they got me through some really rough conditions and were mechanically more sound than the Chevy's.

I have 100% confidence in Ford to develop a vehicle which has less issues than my Wrangler did. It's hard to say you have 100% confidence in any manufacturer. My company has owned dozens of fords and we rarely have issues.

Zero issues but I have had 4 recalls on the 2016 F150.

The brand new Mercedes we owned for 8 years was constantly in the shop.

My 12 f-150 had the rear defrost break and the whole back glass with slider needed replaced.
my 15 f-150 had the mutli function switch fail (wipers constantly ran), few recalls(master cylinder finally got replaced a few weeks ago),my starter failed at 50k miles and needed replaced.

in the last few years, I've deeply considered picking up an F150, just to have a decent truck around to do stuff with, but even that desire has been tempered by the fact that literally everyone I know that has had, or has a Ford product, has a ford product with transmission issues. Ford seems to be leaning into the future with electric, and was the only company that didn't take a bailout when the others did. but I am still nervous about Ford transmission reliability.

...but I still want a bronco. just all there is to it. I'll get the extended warranty and not give a fuck.
I am 100% with you on this. My Coworker had to replace his F-150 transmission before 60,000 miles. It's the reason why I have been leasing Escapes, vs buying them. I have wanted to avoid the post warranty blues.

So I am worried about the transmission, but feel the 10 Speed is the more reliable option based on history.

How’s the expedition been
I bought it a couple years ago, one owner, all maintenance records, full seat covers, floor mats, dash cover etc. It is in excellent condition with 225,000 miles.
It stays in the garage at our vacation home and is used there for running around town and launching our Nordic at the lake. It looks good and I would not hesitate driving it anywhere.

I'm a boomer who is loyal to Ford, but would buy an import. My '02 Escape has almost 229,000 miles and is a beast in the snow. Only one problem (due to wear and tear) in almost 19 years.
