Owl cam!I also worry about getting keyed/door dings etc. I wish there was a good 24/7 video recording option like tesla has.
Just looked at the Ravelco site. This looks like a winner solution to me.My '20 Tremor has been broken into and almost stolen twice in 4 months. Ravelco kill switch saved it.
Broke door handle the first time and tried to program a key but it didn't work, them I got ravelco. Second time the pulled the computer and wiring harness out of the truck to swap the computer and drive off but ravelco stopped them. They decided to break my door lock even more than it already was for no reason and also broke my passenger window a little for no reason.Just looked at the Ravelco site. How much damage did they do in the breakins?
Ravelco may have stopped them but you can’t just swap PCMs anymore. The PCM is paired and needs a handshake with the BCM and TCM. The only way around this is a dealership tool to reassign the handshake to a new module.Broke door handle the first time and tried to program a key but it didn't work, them I got ravelco. This and GPS tracker, although I guess the tracker is more of a recovery too.Manual transmission![]()
I've heard bcm swaps still work on this truck at least. They didn't drive the truck off the first time probably because it was a 2020 and they couldn't program a new key. Maybe this time it's the wrong bcm along with ravelco stopping them. When I was inspecting the truck the main block harnesses were unplugged under the hood too. Luckily I was able to plug everything back in and she fired right up.Ravelco may have stopped them but you can’t just swap PCMs anymore. The PCM is paired and needs a handshake with the BCM and TCM. Now maybe your car thieves work at a dealership....
There are window films for buildings that make it extremely difficult to gain entry. Many schools have went with this to help prevent active shooters. 3M makes a pretty well regarded version. I am sure that has been scaled down to vehicle use by now.Recently had my window smashed on my truck while my wife and I went biking in Kerrville, TX. It was in a fairly well-trafficked park so I’m sure it was a very quick smash and (attempted) grab. Been researching window treatments that would slow a thief down in that scenario (and reduce the shards of glass in the vehicle). We will see about that. Leaving a vehicle sitting at a trail head/remote camp site that’s loaded up with proper recovery gear, repair tools, off-road power accessories, camping gear, etc. is certainly not for the faint of heart or the poorly insured. Gotta get out there, though. Life’s too short.
I would check out owl cam. Expensive for the subscription, but can definitely be worth it for those who are worried. How are we going to handle theft prevention, we all know that when they first hit the road and for at least the first year or two they'll be super unique vehicles, getting a lot of attention, most of it really good but regrettably some of it not so.
The Jeep owners have been facing this challenge since at least 1940, lol, they have some pretty good experience. It would be good to understand what they have found successful and then formulate a strategy, I’m sure you're out there please share, keep me from making the mistakes that would cost money and the Bronco.
I'll be running it commando for as many months of the year as I can. Can't spend all my days worrying about it being there when I get back.
With the Bronco having so much technology built in what do you have in mind?
- What additional Security will we need over and above what comes with the vehicle?
- What type of kill switch? Should I even install a kill switch? I had one in my CJ5 back in the 80s, but the car is a neanderthal compared to today's vehicles.
- Steering wheel and pedal locks are just not going to cut it against today's thieves.
- Installing an additional alarm feel so old school, haven't needed one, so I'm out of touch, what do you think?
