I think we need to come to your house to do our snow wheeling. We get a lot of snow. The driveway is about 450 feet long. It's not paved or straight. lol and it's not very wide tricky to navigate when I plough it with the quad not all the stumps are out of the road.... myToyo open country III are a crappy tire when it's slick or ice, my KO2 were a little bit better.... I just put on brand new falcon's 35" so we'll see how they do..... I have an extra set of wheels when the Toyo's wear down, I'll get a dedicated studded snow tire.... I rerouted my driveway so we'll see how that does....
But to beat the dead horse a bit more - yeah, adding a front locker means upgrading to the M210 FDU and new front axles, as well as re-gearing your rear end. You can find the parts used if you dig hard enough, and if you can do the work yourself it's not hugely expensive; but a good set of studded snow tires and a winch will be a lot cheaper. As would getting the stumps out.
