I had the chance a few months ago to buy my friend’s old YJ for $7k and save a shitload instead of buying the BDBronco, which should be in my driveway this month. He’s got a buyer now and I’m kind of regretting I didn’t snag it instead.

Did you ever drive it? It might be fun for an occasional cruise and off road it’s probably decent, but really not comparable to a Bronco or current Jeep for that matter. The 190hp 4.0 was the highlight (if so equipped), the SFA and front leafs were pretty brutal. I could totally see having it as a camp truck.

Square is rare! I loved my 89 and 90 wranglers. They had the square lights and the slanted rollbar which has always been my favorite. But very uncomfortable and unless you have the 6cyl the thing was very underpowered.

I always wanted to swap my engine but I could ever justify the cost because it was always cheaper to just buy someone else’s project. After around 20 years I just sold my last Jeep however I still love the square lights and slanted bar.

I have a '97 which we use as a 3rd car when the kids are using our primary drives. Fun to drive, great for short trips, but as daily driver they are definitely lacking. Haven't decided if I'm keeping it once the Bronco arrives. Personally like the look of Jeeps & Broncos with round headlights.

I liked the YJ’s headlights; still do - “square is rare”. At least no one is turning these into stupid Angry birds. That said, the price he was asking is about the going rate, not a deal. There are plenty to be found still in good condition. This upgraded YJ Islander in Steinbach Manitoba is $9639.00 USD…

Beautiful Jeep. But if you can $wing it, I bet you'll be pretty stoked with your Bronco.

No input on my end, but I like the square lights a lot.

You chose right. Not as cool as CJs, not as refined as TJ+.

YJs should not go for this kind of money. The world's gone mad.

97 was coil spring and round headlights right? I had an LJ that was light years ahead of the YJ. Definitely closer to a daily driver with the coils.

Yes coil springs & round headlights, actually a very decent ride. Even has 2 cup holders! But with an egg beater 4cyl, no real a/c & having to yell over road noise even with the top up, you know what it must be like to drive a Vespa on a Freeway.

But it's a great car for what it was designed for and you have to give Jeep credit for sticking to their roots. One of the main reasons I'm buying a Bronco is that it matches Jeep in off road capability but is a clear step up for everyday driving. That and the fact I think the Bronco looks cooler.
