Hi Guys,

I have a 2023 Badlands 4 Door and it has about 500 miles on it. I am getting a super loud scraping noise from the right rear wheel. Hitting the brakes does not change the sound, increasing speed increases the noise. However, in reverse there is no noise... What could be going on here?

Have you taken the wheel off to see if you have a rock wedged in there? I assume you've already looked for a foreign object or bent dust cover.

It got dark and I won't be able to get to it till next week. I am leaving town. Why wouldn't it do this noise in reverse? I did think about both of those things you said. The reverse thing threw me for a loop.

Put it on a lift and search for the noise. Good luck.

Good morning! If you send over a DM with your VIN and Ford dealer info, I can look into your noise concern on my end.

Often times a corner of a dust/brake/debris shield will get bent over and make contact with the rotor. Moving in one direction rotates the rotor against the grain, the reverse direction goes with the grain. And in this case, the grain is meant to be representative of however the shield is bent and getting “played like a violin”

Pretty common, hopefully this is all it is

I verified that it was the rear passenger side making the noise. I pulled the dust cover off and there was no visible damage or debris. I put the dust cover back on and had daylight all around and spun the rotor to listen for a grind and it was seemingly coming from the hub assembly. I bent the dust cover away from the rotor very slightly just in case and drove it. Sound was unchanged. Makes noise going forwards, not backwards.

So the noise wasn't there with the dustcover removed? That part was unclear.

A very slight shift of direction the weight shifts could move it away from the rub. An improperly seated bearing is highly unlikely but possible. Let the dealer handle it. Gotta love warranties.

Oh, I meant I inspected it and found no debris or damage to the dust cover.

What does the transmission have to do with the right rear wheel making noise?
There is rotational scraping noise issues happing inside many of the 7MT transmissions so was just wondering.

Yep, I have the scraping sound in my 7MT. A noise on the rear wheel is a little far away to be related though.

I assumed, did sound like they were pretty confident about the location of the noise but just wanted to throw it out there incase.
